We have a fantastic opportunity for a SMS Healthcare Assistant to join the team at HMP Altcourse, a busy Category B male prison in Fazakarley, Liverpool.

This is a crucial role within the Substance Misuse team, making a real difference to patients, and delivering outstanding care. This role offers excellent developmental opportunities and is a great environment to build on your experience and gain new skills!

This role sits within our Substance Misuse Service, however SMS experience isn't essential - we can train this! It is important to us that you have an interest in Substance Misuse, and are keen to learn in this area!

Hours: This is a full time role, 37.5 hours per week, working a variety of shifts between Monday and Sunday.

Salary: This position is full time, you’ll receive an annual salary of £24,669 - £28,690 per annum - depending on experience.

What you'll be doing

As our new SMS Healthcare Assistant, your responsibilities will vary. Some of your duties will include:

  • Be involved in the implementation of clinical care packages, phlebotomy and assessment, treatment and the evaluation of patients care - this includes venepuncture and tissue viability.
  • This role will support the SMS Nursing team in delivering medication and care to our substance misuse patients.
  • You will primarily be working within the clinical substance misuse team, although may be required to carry out duties in the primary care team.
  • You will support the registered nurse in association with the patient and in accordance with instructions and training received whilst promoting safe patient care and be willing to develop and apply new skills to maintain and enhance clinical service delivery.

Our new SMS Healthcare Assistant will:

  • Hold a NVQ Level 2/3 qualification in Health & Social Care, or equivalent.
  • Ideally have experience within a Substance Misuse role, and have knowledge of Mental Health.
  • Have experience in a care setting previously - ideally from a hospital or prison setting.
  • Have clinical experience - venepuncture, tissue viability etc.
  • Have a non-judgemental and compassionate approach.
