Job description

To provide managerial and clinical leadership to the CT team providing care to patients in the CT setting ensuring high quality service delivery.

To provide specialist clinical knowledge to the CT service using the skills and techniques gained through your practice.

Main duties of the job

  1. Managing the LHCH CT Radiographer team.
  2. Service delivery in CT.

Job responsibilities

CLINICAL

  1. To undertake routine and complex investigations and implement agreed scanning techniques in a manner that respects people's privacy, dignity and individuality.
  2. To ensure effective internal and external two-way communication with patients, carers and all other Health and Social Care Professionals regarding all aspects of patient care.
  3. Dealing with complaints from staff and patients.
  4. Explaining specialist procedures.
  5. Reassure anxious patients/carers.
  6. Show empathy with distressed patients.
  7. Effective communication regarding delivery of daily service.
  8. To supervise students and junior staff in their practice to ensure ongoing education in all aspects of the specialist modality.
  9. To ensure that imaging techniques are evidence-based and in line with current practice.
  10. To undertake relevant research and audit within the specialist field.

MANAGERIAL/LEADERSHIP

  1. To co-ordinate the modality team at an operational level ensuring the efficient running of the service.
  2. Regular monitoring of staffing levels ahead of time.
  3. Regular monitoring of daily skill mix ahead of time.
  4. Monitoring of daily worklists and planning of any adaptations.
  5. Staff rosters completed within timescale outlined in the Trust electronic rostering policy.
  6. Ensure rosters are kept up to date and accurate on a daily basis.
  7. Effective communication and dissemination of information which may affect the service delivery to the Lead Radiographer for Radiology and the Deputy Head of Operations for Clinical Services.
  8. Attendance at Radiology Governance, Sickness review meetings, Senior meetings, and 1:1s.
  9. Leading the team and working closely with stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery, supporting the Lead Radiographer for Radiology and the Deputy Head of Operations for Clinical Services with the operational planning and delivery of the service.
  10. Organisation of extra sessions/overtime/A/L/time owing based on requirements of the service.
  11. Ensuring efficient use of agency staff.
  12. Highlighting potential options for service improvements within specialist modality and/or across the department.
  13. Communicating with other departmental leads to overcome potential roster/service issues.
  14. Effective communication with the specialist modality team.
  15. Ensuring suitable appraisals for the whole specialist team are completed within the appraisal window.
  16. Being approachable and giving ample opportunity for the team to share information/raise concerns.
  17. Addressing concerns.
  18. Regular feedback to the team regarding developments within the service.
  19. Organisation of regular team meetings.
  20. Handling high level/sensitive senior information in a professional manner maintaining confidentiality, sharing information with the team in a motivational way while showing support.
  21. Understand barriers to cooperation/agreement within the team.
  22. Communicate with the team expressing empathy.
  23. Provide relevant accurate data as required.
  24. Data for audits on service development & modality compliance.
  25. Thorough incident investigations, reviewing all aspects.
  26. Provide accurate specialist knowledge to the team on Trust, Departmental & modality-based policies and procedures.
  27. Provide accurate knowledge on clinical aspects of specialist modality based on relevant practical experience.
  28. To represent the Radiology Service on relevant management and service development committees within the Divisions in conjunction with the Lead Radiographer for Radiology and the Operational management team.
  29. To support the Lead Radiographer for Radiology and the Deputy Head of Operations for Clinical Services in achieving the service objectives.
  30. Organisation of students and their clinical educators for in-hospital placements.
  31. Responsible for implementation of policies and supporting development of policies where required.
  32. Regular review and updating of current modality policies and procedures.
  33. Ensuring modality policy and procedure updates are approved through the appropriate channels (Radiology Governance).
  34. Responsible for dissemination of modality and departmental policy and procedure updates to the specialist modality team.
  35. Act as authorised signatory for specialist modality.
  36. Initial sign off of shifts with extra payments.
  37. Signatory for stock orders related to specialist modality.

ORGANISATIONAL

  1. To represent Radiology Services at relevant committees within the organisation.
  2. To achieve the departmental objectives for the modality specific elements of the Radiology service.
  3. With support from the Lead Radiographer for Radiology and the Deputy Head of Operations for Clinical Services, manage any performance and workforce issues within the in-hospital staffing liaising with workforce and organisational development.
  4. To maintain accurate and up to date records.
  5. To be responsible for proposing and implementing policies for the specialist area and other areas in the Radiology Department.
  6. Responsible for the specialist team in relation to arranging annual leave, clinical supervision and works within a range of organisational policies.
  7. Ensuring the safety of all staff and patients within the specialist modality.
  8. Responsible for ensuring that all relevant documentation is completed such as post processing, modality DQs and new starter departmental inductions.
  9. Responsible for ensuring all projects or plans related to the specialist modality are kept on track in line with predicted timescales.
  10. Responsible for managing own workload in relation to administration days and around clinical duties.
  11. There is an expectation that where possible administration days will coincide with senior meetings which require your attendance. When this is not possible there is an expectation that this will be escalated to your line manager.

PROFESSIONAL

  1. To maintain registration with the HCPC and comply with the standards and codes of conduct.
  2. To act as Radiation Safety Advisor (RPS) for the Radiology service ensuring safe practices are adhered to and maintained.
  3. It is expected that you will lead by example in both the clinical and administrative setting.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of mentoring, coaching and supervision.
  • Enhanced clinical reasoning skills & professional judgement.
  • Efficiently organise/manage workloads and minimise avoidable risk.
  • Experience of single and dual plane imaging equipment.
  • Experience of cardiac interventional procedures.
  • Previous management of a team.
  • Knowledge of managing attendance.
  • Previous experience of having difficult conversations.
  • Knowledge of employment law & HR procedures.

Desirable

  • Experience in organisation of QA processes.
  • Experience in Service development & evaluation methods.

Qualifications

Essential

  • FHEQ Level 6 / BSc / BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent qualification if applicable.

Desirable

  • Qualification level ? FHEQ level 7/SCQF level 11.
  • Postgraduate certificate (PgCert)/postgraduate diploma (PgDip) or equivalent qualification if applicable.
