Clinical Bioinformatician - Central London (Hybrid)

DNA Life Sciences is currently partnered with a Central London-based Biotech, who are currently searching for a Clinical Bioinformatician to join the team.

About the Role:

We are seeking a talented and dedicated Clinical Bioinformatician to play a key role in our efforts to harness genomic data to improve patient care. This position offers the opportunity to work on exciting projects that bridge advanced bioinformatics with clinical applications, driving insights that support precision medicine within a Biotech setting with a larger focus on Oncology.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Analyse and interpret complex genomic datasets, focusing on identifying clinically relevant insights.
  2. Develop, validate, and implement bioinformatics pipelines for clinical and research purposes.
  3. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including clinicians, scientists, and IT professionals, to integrate genomic insights into patient care.
  4. Evaluate and optimize tools, algorithms, and workflows for genomic data analysis.
  5. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and guidelines in all aspects of bioinformatics work.
  6. Contribute to the preparation of scientific reports, publications, and presentations.
  7. Provide bioinformatics expertise and support to internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications and Skills:

Education:

  1. MSc or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, or a related field.

Technical Skills:

  1. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or similar.
  2. Experience with bioinformatics tools and pipelines (e.g., Nextflow, GATK, or similar).
  3. Knowledge of genomic data formats (VCF, BAM, FASTQ) and databases.
  4. Familiarity with cloud computing environments and containerization (e.g., AWS, Docker).

Clinical Genomics Expertise:

  1. Strong understanding of human genetics and genomics, particularly in clinical contexts.
  2. Experience with variant annotation, prioritization, and interpretation.

Soft Skills:

  1. Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  2. Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information to diverse audiences.
  3. Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary and collaborative environment.
  4. Familiarity with regulatory and quality frameworks for clinical bioinformatics.
  5. Experience in whole-genome or exome sequencing data analysis.
  6. Understanding of rare diseases or cancer genomics.
  7. Publication record in peer-reviewed journals is a plus.
