Position: Artistic Director
Organization: Stratford Concert Choir

About Us:
The Stratford Concert Choir (SCC) has been part of Stratford’s vibrant music scene for more than 40 years. Our mission is to share the joy of great choral music. We sing and perform a diverse repertoire, from well-loved traditional works such as Handel’s Messiah and Mozart’s Requiem, to lighter secular pieces. New members are always welcome.

Position Overview:
The Artistic Director will be responsible for shaping and implementing the artistic vision of the Stratford Concert Choir. This leadership role includes planning and leading rehearsals, selecting repertoire, conducting performances, and fostering the artistic growth of the ensemble. The Artistic Director will collaborate with the board, and community to foster successful partnerships and to maintain and enhance the choir’s reputation for musical excellence and community engagement. Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement the choir’s artistic vision in alignment with its mission and values.
  • Plan and lead weekly rehearsals, ensuring an engaging and productive environment.
  • Select diverse and inspiring repertoire that aligns with the choir’s goals, and skill level.
  • Conduct the choir during concerts and other public performances.
  • Collaborate with the board on budgeting, scheduling, and strategic planning.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with guest artists, instrumentalists, and other collaborators as needed.
  • Audition potential choristers and provide a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment in rehearsal and concert in keeping with our ESG policy
  • Represent the choir in the community and serve as its artistic ambassador.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in choral conducting and artistic leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of choral repertoire, technique, and pedagogy
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate singers of diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
  • Ability and desire to engage audiences with diverse and interesting programming
  • Experience working with a volunteer ensemble (preferred).
  • Degree in music, choral conducting, or a related field (preferred but not required).

Compensation:
This is a part time position, with an annual contract and competitive remuneration to be negotiated
