Job description

Our client, one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of a range of heritage status hi-fi brands and components, is seeking an Audio Electronics Design Engineer to join their Research and Development team based in Cambridgeshire. This hybrid role will involve reviewing and improving electronic designs and prototypes, ensuring that products meet the highest quality standards.

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background working with audio electronics in R&D, particularly in digital and analogue audio technologies. They will be expected to analyse and critique circuit schematics and PCB layouts, assess the quality of electronic components, and provide feedback to drive design improvements. This person should possess a strong understanding of circuit design, high-speed circuits, and power supply design. Proficiency in networked audio standards and hardware interface communication protocols is highly preferred.

Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to travel to China several times a year to visit and work with the team based there, so flexibility and willingness to spend time abroad is required for this role.

Required Experience:

  • A degree in Electronics Engineering and 3+ years of experience working with PCB in audio electronics R&D or a related field, with a focus on digital and analogue audio systems, OR 8+ years of industry experience without a degree.
  • Strong experience in analysing electronic schematics and PCB design, with a particular focus on audio technologies.
  • Experience working with digital audio systems, high-speed circuit design, and power supply design.
  • A successful track record of collaborating with international teams.

Required Skills:

  • Familiarity with networked audio standards and other hardware interface communication protocols.
  • Experience in PADS PCB design software.
  • Experience with measurement tools for assessing electronic components (e.g. Audio Precision).
  • Excellent communication skills for technical discussions across multicultural teams.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with high-speed circuit design, power supply design, and digital audio systems.
  • Experience in technical writing and creating detailed feedback for product development.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in providing valuable insights and feedback to the R&D team, with the opportunity to contribute to innovation in audio electronics design. If this sounds like you, don’t hesitate to apply!
