Role/Department:

The First Line of Defense - Operational Resilience Testing Manager will support the Operational Resiliency Program and be part of a global program resiliency testing team, focusing on managing resiliency testing processes and activities within the detailed Risk & Control Enhancement Plan. This will be accomplished by oversight on the development and enhancement, execution, and design of various resilience testing and exercise scenarios. Responsibilities also include oversight and ownership of a comprehensive inventory of resiliency scenarios and Important Business Services (IBS) capabilities testing methodologies.

The key responsibilities of the role:

  1. Manage and provide oversight on the development, execution, and design of complex Operational Resiliency tests and exercises to assess and enhance Northern Trust’s ability to respond and recover from disruptions.
  2. Integrate Operational Resiliency testing and exercises into the existing landscape of testing and exercises and understand how Northern Trust’s various testing regimes promote Enterprise Resiliency.
  3. Oversee the development and design of a comprehensive scenario inventory of severe but plausible scenarios.
  4. Lead the design and execution of IBS Capability Testing Methodology including test objectives, scope, and success criteria.
  5. Evaluate and analyze the results of end-to-end resilience exercises and tests and provide recommendations for identified resilience gaps.
  6. Escalate gaps identified from resilience tests and exercises in a timely and effective manner.
  7. Provide training and support to business unit leaders and other stakeholders on resilience scenario testing and methodology.
  8. Coordinate and oversee exercises performed with third parties and external partners.
  9. Determine quality objectives, standards, and levels, with input from stakeholders, to establish the basis for quality outcomes.

Skills/Experience:

  1. Substantial experience in leading and performing testing and exercises with experience in Enterprise Resilience Tests and Exercises, business continuity, and/or disaster recovery.
  2. Extensive experience with Business Continuity Planning and Disaster Recovery Planning and high-level understanding of the threat landscape.
  3. Previous experience in people management.
  4. Deep knowledge of resilience testing and exercise methodologies including table-top exercises, functional exercises, isolated recoveries, and full-scale simulations.
  5. Ability to consume functional and non-functional requirements and ensure complete test coverage.
  6. Experience developing testing scorecards, and effectively and efficiently communicating test status at different levels of the organization (i.e., from individual contributor to Management).
  7. Ability to lead test strategy, test plan, and test case compilation, ensuring that testing artifacts are complete, consistent, comprehensible, traceable, and feasible, that they conform to standards, and that they provide complete coverage including positive, negative, functional, non-functional, performance, and security testing.
  8. Demonstrated understanding of business and technology operations, resources, priorities, and policies.
  9. Ability to lead teams and develop/maintain relationships with stakeholders from various lines of business and functional areas.
  10. In-depth knowledge of Financial Services’ business capabilities, applications, processes, and infrastructure required to deliver end-to-end capability.
