Job description

We have a great opportunity for a dynamic and motivated Principal Geo-Environmental / Environmental Consultant specialising in contaminated land and Brownfield development to join our Sustainable Land and Resource Management Practice in our London, Epsom or Cambridge offices.

AtkinsRéalis is one of the world’s leading engineering and design consultancies; we have the breadth and depth of expertise to respond to the most technically challenging and time critical infrastructure projects. The Sustainable Land and Resource Management Practice is a well-established, award winning, multi-disciplinary, environmental and engineering practice with an extensive portfolio of regeneration and development projects and a highly skilled team; notably with staff winning various Brownfield Briefing awards over the past years.

The successful candidate will be an important part of an innovative and technically excellent team helping deliver projects to a number of the largest UK-based and international infrastructure projects including nuclear new-build. AtkinsRéalis contaminated land specialists use the full range of their skills, working on land contamination, hydrogeology and brownfield redevelopment projects as well as providing innovative solutions to engineering challenges. The work involves local and national projects and frameworks being delivered by AtkinsRéalis across a range of exciting markets, including the development of Cities, Transportation (major road and rail sectors) and Energy Infrastructure. We work on projects in London and the Southeast, the UK and around the world. We pride ourselves in offering a truly multi-disciplinary working environment and bring exciting opportunities to influence a project from beginning to end.

This post will offer a challenging and rewarding opportunity to apply knowledge, experience and problem-solving skills whilst providing good opportunities for career development. As a member of our friendly and supportive team you will manage a range of projects, working with our experienced staff, to deliver excellence to our clients. You will work closely with a wide range of other professionals to deliver holistic solutions to environmental and engineering problems and to identify new opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Project management and technical delivery of a wide variety of contaminated land focused projects, including the management of finances, programme delivery and technically reviewing others’ work.
  • Providing technical guidance, constructive support and mentoring to junior staff and supporting their technical development.
  • Liaison with clients, stakeholders, regulators, sub-contractors and other internal disciplines.
  • Supporting senior management in developing new business and the preparation of commercial offers to maintain and expand the current client base.
  • Working with the local and wider Sustainable Land and Resource Management team across the UK.

Requirements:

  • Higher education qualification in a relevant engineering or science subject (e.g. geology, geography, hydrogeology, chemistry, earth sciences, environmental science).
  • Chartered Membership of relevant professional body (if not Chartered, we would expect the candidate, with our support, to become chartered within 6 to 12 months after joining).
  • Relevant post-graduate experience (ideally within a consultancy environment) with a strong technical, people and project management skillset and a track record in winning and delivering high-profile work.
  • Technical leadership and delivery of Phase 1 Desk Studies, Phase 2 Site Investigations, remediation design and verification / validation for a range of projects and clients.
  • Commercial awareness and understanding including being able to complete tenders.
  • Good working knowledge and demonstrable understanding of the relevant legislation, technical guidance, industry standards and best practice for contaminated land, materials management and waste.
  • Customer focused with good relationship management skills.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Registered SiLC and SQP.
  • Experience and knowledge of managing NEC3/4 and/or ICE contracts.
  • Experience and knowledge of electricity substation and high voltage-related land contamination sites.
  • Experience and knowledge of MMPs and the DoW Code of Practice.
  • Experience and knowledge of EIAs, due diligence and permitting.
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative controlled waters and human health risk assessment (ideally with experience in common analytical modelling packages such as P20, ConSim, CLEA).
  • Experience in working with geospatial data (GIS) using software such as QGIS and/or ArcGIS.
  • Ideally you will have experience managing data on large projects, especially GIS data and AGS data.
