Job description

Department: Debt Recovery

Location: Leeds

Description

As a Litigation Paralegal you will play a vital role within our Recoveries department by assisting in the management and progression of possession claims through the County Court. You will ensure that clients, represented by Flint Bishop, receive pro-active, consistent, and efficient levels of service.

The role is full time, Monday to Friday 37.5 hour per week at our office in Leeds. Reporting to the Litigation Team Manager and overall reporting to the Director of Operations, Collections & Recoveries.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Handling own caseload of files from initial instruction through to obtaining possession or instructions from our client to close our file.

Undertake elements of fee earning work under supervision, in particular:

  1. Creation of matters on our case management system;
  2. Obtaining documents from the Land Registry and other sources, and checking that it is appropriate to commence possession proceedings;
  3. Issuing possession proceedings both via PCOL and manually;
  4. Preparation of electronic bundles, witness statements and agents instructions for possession hearings;
  5. Processing agents reports and court orders;
  6. Enforcing possession orders and liaising with third party agents to attend evictions;
  7. Confirming that possession of properties has been obtained to clients and other parties;
  8. Dealing with applications: to suspend warrants for possession; leave to enforce possession orders; leave to re-instate adjourned possession claims; and other miscellaneous applications as required;
  9. Identifying cases that have or are likely to become 'non-standard' and making your Team Manager aware of these;
  10. Dealing with incoming telephone calls and correspondence from borrowers and their representatives, and seeking to rehabilitate and avoid possession wherever possible;
  11. Making outbound telephone calls to borrowers, clients and other parties;
  12. Following call models prescribed by our lender clients or the Department;
  13. Ensuring that we comply with regulatory (FCA MCOB) and legislative (CPR) requirements at all times;
  14. Working to service standards agreed with our lender clients;
  15. Updating client systems to reflect the activities we have performed;
  16. Assisting with client reporting and management information;
  17. Dealing wherever possible with routine client enquiries and communications;
  18. Identifying areas that may benefit from improvement and communicating them to your team manager;
  19. Providing guidance, feedback and training to Trainees where required, passing queries you are unsure of to your team manager for guidance.
