Job description

Job Title: Educational Psychologist
Pay Rate: £44,364 - £57,425 per annum
Location: Walsall
Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm

Smart Education is currently recruiting for an Educational Psychologist to work across two SEN school sites in Walsall. This is a fantastic opportunity to support young people aged 7 to 18, all of whom have Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs). The schools cater to a diverse range of special educational needs, including autism, learning difficulties, speech and language needs, and complex needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Build positive and constructive relationships with children, young people, and staff to promote a supportive learning environment.
  2. Provide consultation, guidance, and training to school staff to develop therapeutically informed approaches and effective behaviour support strategies.
  3. Offer psychological assessments and interventions across multiple school settings, working closely with education teams and external professionals.
  4. Support the development, delivery, and evaluation of psychological and therapeutic training for staff.
  5. Deliver evidence-based therapeutic and psychological interventions aligned with ethical standards and best practices in educational psychology.
  6. Ensure continued professional development (CPD) to maintain HCPC registration and keep up to date with best practices in psychology and special education.
  7. Visit each assigned school site regularly to provide ongoing support and consultation.
What We're Looking For:
  1. HCPC registration as an Educational Psychologist.
  2. Doctorate in Educational Psychology.
  3. Additional training in dyslexia/dyscalculia assessment is desirable.
  4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with students, staff, and external professionals.
  5. Experience working with children and young people or relevant transferable skills from similar roles.
  6. Understanding of psychotherapeutic approaches, particularly in relation to young people with complex needs.
  7. Knowledge of legislation relating to SEND, trauma, mental health, and safeguarding.
  8. Aware of Ofsted regulations for independent and special schools.
  9. Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle, as travel between sites is required.
