Position Description
Reporting to the TTS Director of IT, the Education Technology Senior Manager (ETSM) will be responsible for advising TTS on education technology, executing the development of Education Technology globally whilst supporting the TTS business. The ETSM will manage the relationship with TTS’s education technology providers. The ETSM will work closely with TTS Product and e-Learning teams which have oversight of TTS’ customer facing LMS, data dashboard and other customer facing solutions. The ETSM will also lead efforts to translate business requirements into technology needs and specifications. The selected individual will be responsible for all education technology systems, identifying technology solutions, negotiating contracts, managing vendors/subscriptions and ensuring a timely implementation compatible to TTS systems and overall environment.
From an IT standpoint, TTS utilizes various off-the-shelf applications including Moodle and related add-ons for delivering our courseware and training to clients. Whilst TTS has built its technology infrastructure through the use of packaged solutions, we will rely on the ETSM to recommend the best solutions (package or custom) to ensure a best-of-breed environment.
Major responsibilities and position expectations include:
- Vendor Management – Manage education technology IT vendors. Vendor management includes evaluation, contract negotiation, directory maintenance and renewals.
- Moodle Development and Administration
- Knowledge of Moodle customizing
- Experience with installing plugins and developing custom plugins
- Integrating with 3rd party applications and other tools via API
- Managing software development and testing (e.g., with third party developer)
- Maintain Moodle environments daily operations, architecture, and development
- Other education technology – Manage existing systems, including upgrades, enhancements and integrations. Recommend appropriate and cost-effective solutions.
- General System Architecture Knowledge and Management – The ETSM will research/advise on best tools, software, and other IT elements to achieve business objectives. Manage integrations between dependent applications and software.
- Security and Privacy – The ETSM will include Security and Data Privacy in all projects including program development, documentation and implementation. The ETSM will also ensure that TTS complies with CCPA, and GDPR as their standards continue to evolve.
- Identifying Business Requirements and Formulate the Technology Roadmap – The ETSM will work with the TTS Product executive team to drive the education technology roadmap and release schedule. The ETSM will prioritize the delivery of functionality to address all stakeholders’ needs while prioritizing work among available resources. The ETSM will have significant input into the Education Technology Roadmap.
- Merger Integrations – TTS’s growth plans include acquisitions. The ETSM will participate in TTS’s acquisition evaluation and subsequent integration.
- Executing and Collaborating on Strategic Plan – The ETSM will advise Leadership on the direction for education technology.
- Developing Functional Specifications – The ETSM will transpose the gathered business requirements into functional specifications. The ETSM will develop prototypes, document business rules and use cases, and ultimately deliver specifications that an outside vendor or third party can turn into technical specifications.
- Validating Delivered Functionality – The ETSM will ensure that technology delivered by a vendor meets the business requirements and if it doesn’t, document changes to ensure it ultimately does meet those requirements.
- Oversee Delivery – The ETSM will work closely with the users to ensure that the education technology system is tested, and ultimately meets stakeholders’ needs.
- Manage Multiple Projects – The ETSM will be responsible for meeting delivery timeframes, multi-tasking across his/her assigned projects, and providing reporting to Leadership.
Related experience and personal attributes:
- 5 - 7 years in software development or developing and managing various client-facing Education Technology
- Self-motivated, strong work ethic, and a 'whatever it takes/get it done' mentality
- Comfortable working with a small technical team
- Interested in continual learning without outside motivation
- Enjoys working in an entrepreneurial environment. Willing to roll up their sleeves to get the job done while contributing to the overall success of the company
- Strong organizational skills and an effective planner
- Ability to work in both a team environment and independently. Ability to be productive with little direction
