Editorial and Content Lead in Oxford, United Kingdom

The team

The Direct-to-Consumer team creates print and digital products for UK learners, meeting them at their point of need outside the classroom, with best-in-class learning experiences for Secondary Revision, primarily GCSE, and Primary Home Learning.

We are a small cross-functional team with a culture of innovation and improvement, but we are missing a member with content and editorial expertise: could that be you?

The role

We are looking for an Editorial and Content Lead for the Direct-to-Consumer Product Team. You’ll manage the delivery of innovative, high-quality and market-appropriate resources for the direct-to-consumer and schools’ revision market from authoring to publication.

In the role you will be utilising and developing both traditional and AI-driven content development processes to create and manage print and digital content. You will ensure that the quality and design of content is maintained throughout the production process, ensuring timely delivery according to scope, schedule, and budget. You will work closely with developers, CX and Product Management colleagues to work through the content requirements for digital platforms and products and for printed titles. You will also work closely with delivery managers to contract, manage and quality assure editorial and digital suppliers to deliver the scoped products. Our Product Executive will be able to support you in the administrative elements of your role.

The ideal candidate will be looking to work with more autonomy and leadership in innovative digital development, have a background in content development, editorial management and/or digital production, and want to lead in this area for a small team. You will need excellent project management skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external suppliers to create outstanding quality content that delivers innovative learning experiences for the consumer market.

About you

You will have a strong editorial background (a minimum of two years’ experience) and might be looking for a high-level editorial role in which you can lead and innovate. You are great at building relationships cross-functionally and with suppliers. You want to be part of a high-performing team doing things differently and are willing to be the single voice leading on content development within the team. You will be interested in process innovation, developing digital content and how the editorial role and process should change in light of developments such as AI. You will also be able to proficiently manage an extensive set of print titles. You will be able to make calls about critical changes to existing content based on many factors such as accessibility and DE&I.

Responsibilities Of This Role Include

  1. Overseeing all content and editorial work within the team, working at pace to achieve commercial goals.
  2. Ensuring print and digital projects are managed effectively in order to produce high-quality educational resources on time and to budget.
  3. Understanding digital, AI and content development tools and processes to identify process and workflow improvements and create innovative and agile responses to project delivery need.
  4. Maintaining an overview of the plant budget, tracking spend vs forecasts and ensuring any significant deviation is remediated or where necessary escalated.
  5. Managing AI-driven content development activities. You will generate, develop and enhance content using Artificial Intelligence tools, engaging in prompt engineering and collaborating with AI specialists.
  6. Staying current with the latest advancements in AI to identify potential applications within the content development lifecycle.
  7. Facilitating in-person and virtual content development workshops with subject matter experts (SMEs) to write and review content and enhance workflows.
  8. Project planning and set-up, including building editorial budgets, schedules and resource plans.
  9. Working with appropriate stakeholders in sales and marketing, R&P, and digital platform teams to ensure business needs are effectively met.
  10. Managing supplier relationships and supporting product management in effective budgeting and negotiation.
  11. Overseeing reprint corrections and improvements of product in market including an extensive print backlist.
  12. Quality Assurance: Perform quality checks on both AI-generated and traditionally developed content to ensure it meets Pearson standards for accuracy, validity, and style.

  • has excellent organisational, time management, prioritisation and planning skills
  • demonstrates understanding of or is willing to learn rapidly about artificial intelligence in content development to become proficient in using and evaluating AI content creation tools and software, with the ability to troubleshoot and optimize their use.
  • can work effectively with AI specialists, developers, and product teams as a key stakeholder to integrate AI solutions into the content development process
  • communicates information effectively to various stakeholders, including subject matter experts (SMEs), ensuring clarity and understanding.
  • maintains a high level of attention to detail to ensure accuracy and quality in both AI-generated and traditionally developed content.

Location: Hybrid working model with the preferred Oxford office location, and flexibility to consider other locations, provided you are willing to travel for meetings.
