The mission of The New York Times is to seek the truth and help people understand the world. That means independent journalism is at the heart of all we do as a company. It’s why we have a world-renowned newsroom that sends journalists to report on the ground from nearly 160 countries. It’s why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world-class digital and app destination. And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.
The New York Times is looking for an experienced, dynamic, digital-savvy editor to join the Live team in the breaking news hub in London. You will primarily coordinate and edit live coverage of major stories in real time, in close collaboration with desks around the newsroom, including International, National, Washington, Metro, Weather and Express.
We're looking for an editor with deep experience in breaking news who has mastered the kind of sweep and authority that sets The Times apart, and has a strong understanding of how to deliver news quickly and creatively to a digital audience. You should be nimble enough to tackle many topics, and comfortable driving coverage forward to enhance readers' understanding of complex developing stories. All the while, they must enforce The Times's standards for accuracy and independence. This is an excellent opportunity to work on some of the day's biggest stories while working collaboratively within a team, and with colleagues from all over the world.
This is a permanent, hybrid position based in London and includes regular attendance in the office each week per your departmental guidance. This role will report to the Deputy Editor of the Breaking News Hub. Working hours will generally be 9 a.m.-5 p.m. U.K. time five days a week, including one weekend day.
The New York Times is committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce, one that reflects the varied global community we serve. Achieving true diversity and inclusion is the right thing to do. It is also the smart thing for our business. So we strongly encourage women, veterans, people with disabilities, people of color and gender nonconforming candidates to apply.
