Hiring Range: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour

Summary

Do you have a passion for youth development and leadership? The Town of Shrewsbury is looking for a Recreation Summer Assistant & CIT Director to help lead our 2025 Recreation Summer Program! This seasonal, full-time role runs from May to August 2025 and is perfect for someone who loves working with young leaders and creating a fun, educational, and safe summer experience.

What You’ll Do

  • Support the Recreation Summer Director in planning and running daily operations.
  • Supervise and mentor Counselors-in-Training (CITs), providing guidance and leadership development.
  • Act as a liaison between CITs, counselors, and leadership, ensuring smooth communication and teamwork.
  • Assist with staff training, daily scheduling, and activity coordination.
  • Enforce program policies, safety protocols, and behavioral expectations.
  • Lead CIT training sessions, team-building activities, and feedback meetings.
  • Help with administrative tasks such as scheduling and supply management.
  • Step into leadership roles as needed when the Recreation Summer Director is unavailable.
What We’re Looking For

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (college coursework in education, recreation, or leadership is a plus).
  • Previous experience in youth programming, summer camp leadership, or mentorship roles.
  • Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.
  • Experience with conflict resolution, behavior management, and team leadership.
  • CPR & First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before the program starts).
  • Ability to pass a background check and meet all regulatory requirements.
Bonus Skills

  • Experience working with teenagers in leadership development programs.
  • Knowledge of recreational programming and youth mentorship strategies.
  • Enthusiasm for creating an engaging and supportive environment for campers and CITs alike.
