Job description

Program Manager, Launch & Expansion, Amazon Flex

At Amazon, we strive to be Earth’s most customer-centric company, where people can come to find and discover anything they might want to buy online. At Amazon, we are building a world-class last mile operation, significantly complemented by our new service, which works directly with independent contractors – called delivery partners – to make deliveries to our customers. With this new last mile delivery service (Amazon Flex), individuals can now be their own boss delivering Amazon packages. It is powered by a mobile app that works in concert with our advanced logistics systems that allows delivery partners to onboard, schedule delivery times, guide them through their deliveries with in-app mapping and navigation, and more. The approach and technology are nothing short of disruptive, and promise to challenge traditional approaches, and change the way the industry operates.

We are continuing to build a high-paced and lean Japan team to implement and expand our last mile capabilities across key segments of Japan Transportation business. Amazon is now looking to hire an experienced Program Manager to lead new site launches in a new jurisdiction, site operation methodology conversion, or legacy sites that require a new Flex channel development across AMZL, SSD or AGL business. The Program Manager will own the Flex channel launch processes from planning stage to post-launch ramp-up phase graduation. This would mean:

  1. Understanding the launch type/location and implications for Flex,
  2. Ensuring smooth implementation of Flex launch playbook tasks,
  3. Owning expected launch metrics like Safety, Quality, Driver experience, volume commitment delivery, and cost for the newly launched sites, and
  4. Smoothly transitioning the sites to BAU Flex Field Operations program manager.

The individual will be required to influence teams to ensure resources are prioritized for the actions identified. This will be done without a clear roadmap not always being in place and the Program Manager will need to create and drive this roadmap with support of Senior Program Managers. This is a highly collaborative role where you will work with AMZL Launch Execution Management, AMZL Planning, Delivery Stations, and internal Flex teams as capacity planning, field operations, programs, and marketing. You are expected to ensure that launch processes are carried out effectively and efficiently, to meet expected launch targets and ensuring long-term success of Flex channel. They are trusted to present decisions to leaders up to higher levels, write 3-pagers, and input into MBRs and QBRs documents. The role requires management and delivery through themselves and stakeholder teams, requiring the manager to be effective at alignment through virtual and written communication.
