Job description

JOB TITLE: Security Officer

LOCATION: The Forge Shopping Centre

PAY RATE: £11.82 PER HOUR

WORKING HOURS: 40 HOURS PER WEEK, Shift Working including weekends and bank holidays

Job Summary:

The Security Officer will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all visitors, staff, and assets within a busy shopping centre. This role involves patrolling the premises, monitoring surveillance equipment, responding to incidents, and providing excellent customer service to maintain a safe shopping environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Patrolling: Conduct regular foot patrols of the shopping centre, including car parks, to deter criminal activity and ensure a safe environment.
  2. Surveillance Monitoring: Operate and monitor CCTV systems, alarms, and other security equipment to detect and respond to suspicious activities.
  3. Incident Response: Quickly and effectively respond to emergencies, including first aid situations, fire alarms, theft, and other security incidents. Escalate issues to the relevant authorities as needed.
  4. Access Control: Monitor and control access to restricted areas, ensuring only authorized personnel are allowed entry.
  5. Customer Service: Provide assistance and information to visitors and staff, maintaining a visible and approachable presence. Handle lost property and assist in locating missing persons when necessary.
  6. Reporting: Maintain accurate and detailed records of incidents, observations, and patrols. Submit daily activity reports to the Security Supervisor/Manager.
  7. Collaboration: Work closely with law enforcement, emergency services, and shopping centre management to ensure coordinated responses to security issues.
  8. Compliance: Adhere to all company policies, health and safety regulations, and legal requirements related to security operations.
  9. Training: Participate in regular training sessions on security procedures, first aid, fire safety, and other relevant topics.

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential:

  1. Valid SIA (Security Industry Authority) licence.
  2. Previous experience in a security role, preferably within a retail or shopping centre environment.
  3. Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
  4. Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Basic knowledge of first aid and emergency procedures.

Desirable:

  1. Experience with CCTV operation and monitoring.
  2. Conflict resolution training.
  3. Familiarity with the local area and its security challenges.

Working Conditions:

Hours: Shift work, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods. Ability to respond quickly in emergencies.
