The Role

The School of Engineering is seeking to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Teaching and Scholarship) in Robotics and Autonomous Systems. This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the leading Engineering Schools in the UK.

The successful candidate will join a renowned team of experts in robotics, control, and autonomous systems. Our School has a strong track record of national and international research collaborations, with strategic partnerships in key areas such as human-robot interaction, intelligent automation, autonomous vehicles, and robotics for extreme environments. These collaborations include links with the Alan Turing Institute, UK Robotics and Autonomous Systems Network (UK-RAS), EPSRC-funded robotics programmes, and major industrial partners.

As robotics and autonomous systems continue to transform multiple industries—from advanced manufacturing and healthcare to energy and transport—we seek an individual who will drive innovation in key areas such as:

  1. Multi-Agent Systems - Coordination and collaboration control among multiple agent systems for complex task execution
  2. Verification, Validation and Trust of Machine Learning systems for Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) of autonomous systems
  3. Defense Systems - Developing advanced robotic and autonomous solutions for defense, and security applications
  4. Information Fusion and Vision Systems - Integrating sensor data and AI-driven perception for enhanced situational awareness in autonomous systems
  5. Human-Machine Teaming and Human-Machine Interaction
  6. Machine learning and control optimization of autonomous vehicles in complex environments and extreme environments such as space exploration, marine robotics, or disaster-stricken areas

To apply, please upload the following supporting documents:

  1. Full CV including funding and publication list
  2. Letter of application which demonstrates and evidences how you meet the criteria of the post

This is a two stage recruiting process. This means we will be holding presentations as the initial assessment followed by interviews for shortlisted candidates.

Presentation Date: 23rd May 2025
Interview Date: 12th June 2025 (AM)
