Job description

UX Designer

A leading consultancy is seeking a UX Designer to play a critical role in delivering user-centred design for leading companies and government organisations. You will also actively contribute to building an evolving design community by sharing knowledge, mentoring junior designers, and fostering collaboration across teams. Starting ASAP, paying between £55-65k base annum. With hybrid working at either London or Birmingham office locations.

Your role:

  1. Design and present concepts and user interfaces - including annotations for best practice in information architecture, navigation, and user flows.
  2. Use different techniques to identify and understand users and their needs, so that you can translate user stories and propose user-focused, evidence-based design approaches to meet these needs.
  3. Design accessible and impactful products and services.
  4. Employ a wide range of skills, interviewing users, creating detailed plans, understanding data, facilitating workshops, presenting research findings and more.
  5. Visualise, articulate, and solve complex problems and concepts, and make disciplined decisions based on available information and research evidence.
  6. Apply technical knowledge and experience to create or design interactive prototypes, for both products and services.
  7. Understand and resolve design-centric disputes across varying levels of complexity and risk.
  8. Communicate effectively across organisational and technical boundaries, understanding the context and making complex and technical information simple and accessible for non-technical audiences.

Skills and experience required:

  1. Knowledge of which tools, process, or methods to use and how to bring an agile delivery team along with you.
  2. Grounding in user-centred design, from concept to final delivery.
  3. Ability to engage with development teams and architects to ensure data and technical considerations are accommodated within the design.
  4. Evidence of working with user centred design colleagues to synthesise insights and act on the outcomes.
  5. Experience using a range of design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, Invision, etc.
  6. Ability to present designs and justify decisions you've made using an evidence-based approach.
  7. Proven ability to create high-quality, compelling design concepts and artefacts such user flows, journey mapping, service maps and wireframes.
  8. Understanding of what good digital services look like and how to design in an inclusive, accessible way.
  9. Experienced in rapid paper and digital prototyping.
  10. Ability to build prototypes using code to create dynamic prototypes using HTML, CSS and basic Javascript.
  11. Experience facilitating workshops with senior stakeholders, managing, and undertaking research with users and communicate using personas, interactive prototypes, and user journeys.
  12. Security clearance: To successfully join our client's team, it is essential to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance. This requires continuous residency in the UK for the past 5 years, among other eligibility criteria. Please be prepared to answer questions regarding your security clearance during the recruitment process.
