Job Title: Nurse Educator Lead - Central London Healthcare Training Hub

Location: Head Office/Practices/PCNs

Job Summary

The Nurse Educator Lead is working closely with nursing and healthcare support colleagues across Westminster practices to assess the learning needs of nurses at all levels. Their goal is to develop a curriculum framework that supports the review, enhancement, and evaluation of nursing education, training, and professional development. This initiative is part of a wider program designed to strengthen the recruitment and retention of nursing staff within practices and Primary Care Networks (PCNs).

The Nurse Educator Lead will be responsible for overseeing and delivering high-quality education and training to nurses and healthcare support staff within general practice setting in central/ Westminster. The Central London Training Hub covers 33 practices/4 PCNs.

This role aims to ensure that training standards are maintained, professional development is supported, and training is aligned with national healthcare guidelines and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Education & Training Delivery
  • Develop and deliver structured training programs for nursing and healthcare support workers in general practice
  • Ensure training aligns with national healthcare policies, NMC standards, and best practices in primary care
  • Facilitate clinical skills training, including role-specific competencies e.g HCA/HCSW clinical skills training and competency sign off
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs via feedback, surveys and various data forms and implement relevant improvements to inform future commissioning decisions
  • Work closely with GPN academic and foundation students, act as practice assessor and ensure the practice placement is an appropriate learning environment
  • The Nurse Educator Lead will support the development of Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) and Nursing Associates by coordinating training, placements, and career progression. The role involves working with partners to ensure education pathways meet national standards and service needs

Placement Capacity And Supporting Other Nursing Educators

  • Support practices and PCNs in their management of placement capacity, providing an expert resource to support the maintenance of placement capacity and identify factors to help maximise potential placement opportunities
  • Work collaboratively with HEIs and other local Learning Environment Leads to identify, prepare and increase multi-disciplinary undergraduate and postgraduate trainees' activity across the PCNs
  • Maintain a strategic overview of all pre and post registration placement across the PCNs including data on issues affecting the quality, capacity and distribution of placements
  • Develop and sustain professional links with external stakeholders such as Health Education England (HEE) and actively participate in any local groups forums related to placement quality and capacity
  • Work closely with educators, (mentors, practice assessors, practice supervisors) to ensure all practices comply with the quality assurance standards and to develop and enhance a high quality practice learning experience for students

Workforce Development & Support

  • Support the career development of all level of nurses (trainees, Nursing Associates (NAs), Foundation, Academic and ACPs) and HCA/GPAs by offering mentorship and guidance
  • Work with general practices to identify training needs and tailor education plans for the nursing
  • Provide one-to-one coaching and supervision to practice nurses and healthcare support workers
  • Support the implementation of continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities
  • Raise the profile of general practice nursing and primary care careers including attending job fairs and university/college careers days

Leadership & Strategic Development

  • Lead on quality assurance of training and education within the central training hub
  • Build strong relationships with the general practices including the practice managers, attend practice manager forums as necessary to promote training and inform practices of new training hub initiatives
  • Develop educational policies, resource packs for nurses/HCA and students in line with NHS workforce development goals
  • Communicate effectively with all practices, PCNs and individuals (via forums) to develop a deep understanding of workforce issues and to share information about new roles and how these can be introduced
  • Identify funding opportunities and write new project proposal or bids for Westminster on behalf of the Central London Training Hub
  • Represent the Training Hub at meetings related to nurse education and workforce development. Arrange regular meetings with nurse educators and multi professional educator leads

Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure training programs meet governance, safeguarding, and patient safety requirements
  • Maintain accurate records of training attendance, assessments, and certification compliance
  • Stay up to date with emerging trends and innovations in nurse education and implement evidence-based practices
  • Ensure the timely collection of data and submission of reports incl HEE KPIs (quarterly) and other ad-hoc project highlight reports

Registered Nurse (NMC registered)

Experience

  • Significant experience in a practice nursing role
  • Experience in delivering education, training, and clinical supervision
  • Proven leadership experience in an educational or clinical setting

Knowledge

  • Understanding of NMC standards for supervision and student assessment
  • Awareness of national training frameworks and primary care workforce development policies
  • Knowledge of current healthcare challenges within general practice and primary care settings

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong teaching and facilitation skills with the ability to engage diverse learners
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and mentoring skills
  • Ability to design and implement effective training programs and resources
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple training initiatives simultaneously
