Job Purpose

Canada Life UK are currently looking for a part qualified actuary to support the newly established Reinsurance Operations Team. As part of the reinsurance operations team, you will have the opportunity to support regular reinsurance reporting as well as integrating new reinsurance treaties into the reporting framework. The role will also look to provide support to the optimisation and modernisation of the reinsurance reporting processes.

You will also have the opportunity to work closely with other teams within the Finance Accounting & Reporting department, as well as the Financial Planning and Analysis, Actuarial Support, Pricing and Risk functions. There will also be opportunities to liaise with reinsurers with the support of manager.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Produce, assist with or review the production and interpretation of financial analysis within their line of business or function.
  2. Produce, or assist in the production, of regular departmental, business or regulatory reports taking into account commercial and statutory considerations.
  3. Support accurate and insightful commentary to immediate line management, developing a sound understanding of statistical and financial models.
  4. Support and make recommendations on the continuous improvement of reinsurance reporting processes.
  5. Take part in and contribute to different roles via the actuarial student rotation scheme while actively studying for the actuarial exams.

Desired Knowledge / Experience / Skills

Technical Expertise:

  • Developing knowledge and understanding of different actuarial disciplines.
  • Ability to interpret and analyse financial information.
  • Knowledge of statistical methods, models, and controls.
  • Intermediate to advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Ability to deliver high-standard work under tight time pressure.
  • Knowledge of longevity swaps is helpful but not essential.

Communication:

  • Strong analytical and report writing skills.
  • Ability to explain complexities clearly with coaching or support from managers.

Relationship Building:

  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships across the actuarial function.
  • Flexibility in style and approach to achieve successful outcomes.

Problem Solving & Accurate Judgement:

  • Effectively plan, organise and execute work with minimal supervision.
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Developing Self:

  • Actively studying for actuarial exams.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional and personal development.

Minimum Qualifications:

Degree (or equivalent) in Finance, Mathematics, Statistics or related field; post-graduate qualification is not essential.
