Job description

Care Assistant for a young boy P/T @ £13.74/hr in Prudhoe - FTE - £26.8k - PRUDHOE - NE42

Support is required to enable this young boy to access age-appropriate leisure activities in the local community. He has a diagnosis of Pica and (ASD) autism spectrum disorder. Time may also be used at the family home to read stories together, watch favourite movies, participate in role play, and play games. Support with prompts to keep hydrated.

Driver is essential (carer can use the mobility car).

Main Duties:

  1. Support required to access age-appropriate activities in and around the local community, have an interest in swimming, loves going to the park, and going for walks and drives. Likes music, singing songs, dancing, playing, etc.
  2. You will be required to anticipate the child’s needs, as he has limited verbal communication / is nonverbal. Provide support with personal care and toileting, social stimulation, and progressive levels of activity.
  3. Assist the child to build relationships with peers within his wider community.
  4. Child does not like change and follows a routine with meals and bedtime.

Personal Specification:

  1. Full driving licence essential.
  2. Experience in health & social care desirable.
  3. Have at least 12 months experience working with children who have disabilities.
  4. Have a genuine interest in working with children with complex needs.
  5. Calm, patient, and understanding.
  6. Have a happy, positive, caring nature with an understanding towards children with disabilities.
  7. Ability to both take instructions and use own initiative.
  8. Respect confidentiality.
  9. Punctual, honest, reliable with a caring nature as the child cannot be left unsupervised.

Rate of Pay: £13.74 per hour

Hours Breakdown: 6 hours a week over 2 days, one day through the week and one day at the weekend. Days and times to be discussed at interview.
