The Company

Our client is a skilled civil subcontractor who holds over 20 years of experience within the construction industry. They have extensive experience dealing with various developments, with specialties in groundworks, drainage, and hard landscaping. They operate in various places around the UK and have an impressive track record of delivering projects to standard in a safe manner.

The Project

As an experienced Buyer, you will have an important role based in the Leeds office working on groundworks packages across a wide array of sectors, including education, industrial, retail, housing, accommodation, renewable energy, roads, and highways.

Requirements

It is essential that you hold the experience below:

  1. A proven history of operating as a buyer on groundworks projects
  2. An extensive background with at least 5 years of experience operating as a Buyer or in a similar position for a civil engineering subcontractor

  5. Duration: 12 months
  6. Reporting to: Director

Duties

  1. Issuing purchase order information
  2. Manage and monitor all material rebate related activity
  3. Attend design meetings to monitor and report on any inconsistencies
  4. Build strong relationships with suppliers to ensure cost and quality of materials is upheld
  5. Monitor order progress to ensure on-time delivery and address any issues with suppliers
  6. Monitor annual expenditure, prepare analysis figures and issue and prepare tender invitations
  7. Create and issue purchase orders, confirming correct quantities, specifications, and delivery terms
  8. Source products or services by contacting suppliers, requesting quotes, and evaluating their offerings
  9. Submit regular updates to management on procurement activities, inventory levels, and cost-saving initiatives
  10. Participate in regular site meetings to track material usage, project development, and ensure deadlines are achieved
  11. Liaise with the wider commercial team to ensure financial targets are being met and tendering procedures are adhered to
  12. Conduct research to identify potential suppliers for goods and services, aligned with the company's requirements and current industry trends
  13. Engage with suppliers to discuss and agree on pricing, payment terms, and delivery timelines, ensuring the most favorable agreements for the company
  14. Negotiate contract terms and conditions, ensuring favorable terms and compliance with company policies and legal requirements
  15. Strategically plan and oversee orders to align with demand, ensuring cost efficiency and preventing inventory shortages
  16. Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, ensuring clear communication and long-term collaboration
  17. Track supplier performance regarding delivery timelines, quality, and service standards, addressing any issues that arise
  18. Conduct inspections or assessments of goods received, ensuring they match the specifications and standards agreed upon
  19. Collaborate with finance, operations, and logistics to align purchasing needs and ensure seamless delivery of goods and services
