Overview

Transport for London (TfL) Engineers are always looking forward. Join us in Transport System engineering where as well as maintaining legacy assets, you will deliver new systems and solutions. Day-to-day, you will be part of the Track Engineering Team delivering work packages and technical solutions that go towards ensuring a safe and reliable experience for our customers. Using previous experience of delivering track engineering to a maintenance organisation, you will be making a significant contribution to the efficient maintenance and effective configuration of track across the TfL estate, particularly on London Underground.

You will be experienced in Track Design and capable of producing detailed designs for all track renewal and upgrading works to ensure that technical, safety, quality and financial requirements of TfL are achieved. You will be expected to have design experiences in using design software, engaged in multidisciplinary projects and managing your own design programme as well as supporting others in the team.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Skills

  • Ability to communicate, motivate and influence effectively, both orally and in writing, with people at all levels across the organisation and outside, including negotiating and successfully facilitating joint decision-making.
  • Able to apply and explain engineering principles to resolve issues, progress developments and deal with technical documentation and approvals.
  • Ability to manage stakeholder expectations and deliver service to meet these expectations, managing conflicting priorities to achieve tight deadlines.
  • Proven ability to coordinate engineering activities to deliver assured engineering solutions.

Knowledge

  • Engineering degree or demonstration of suitable equivalent experience ideally through chartered status with a suitable engineering body.
  • Experience in track design and project delivery.
  • Understanding of interfaces within the Permanent Way, and with other asset areas.
  • Appreciation of the wider railway industry.

Experience

  • Be experienced in Track Design, capable of producing design packages for all track renewal and upgrading works at various project stage gates, to ensure that technical, safety, quality and financial requirements of TfL are achieved.
  • Have design experiences in using Bentley Microstation Track software, engage in multidisciplinary projects and managing design programme as well as supporting others in the team.
  • Implementing a high level of innovation in technical issues, problem solving and the culture of the team.
  • Being familiar with, and compliant with, relevant Health & Safety regulations.
