Infrastructure Manager
Employment: FTC for 12 Months
My client is a global financial organisation looking to strengthen their leadership capabilities across Infrastructure Engineering.
We are looking for a leader to manage an infrastructure team, ensuring the delivery of reliable, scalable, and secure IT solutions. This role requires overseeing engineers across multiple technologies, optimising IT operations, and aligning infrastructure strategies with business objectives. The ideal candidate will foster innovation, enhance efficiency, and streamline processes to drive continuous improvements in IT infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Leadership: Provide leadership and development opportunities to infrastructure engineers, fostering teamwork and continuous learning.
- Management: Allocate tasks efficiently, aligning team efforts with broader organisational objectives. Establish clear goals, conduct performance evaluations, and implement effective training plans.
- Vendor Management: Oversee contract and license management, including renewals and cost optimisation. Build and maintain vendor relationships, ensuring cost-effective and beneficial agreements.
- Data Center Management: Manage data center operations, including equipment handling, access coordination, and logistics.
- System Updates: Ensure timely updates for operating systems and applications, addressing security patches and end-of-life planning.
- Risk Mitigation / Problem Solving: Identify and mitigate risks associated with outdated infrastructure components. Drive proactive issue resolution through process improvements and automation.
- Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with key stakeholders to provide strategic IT guidance and support business operations.
- Ways of working: Champion DevOps methodologies, promoting agile workflows and automation.
- Innovation: Modernise IT infrastructure by integrating cloud-based and SaaS solutions. Advocate for automation and standardised processes to improve efficiency.
- Budgets: Contribute to financial planning and budget management for IT operations.
- Collaboration: Coordinate with other IT team leaders to ensure smooth cross-functional collaboration.
- Key Escalation: Act as a key escalation contact for critical IT incidents outside regular hours.
Experience
- Management / Leadership: Circa 3 years experience working in a management / leadership role.
- Engineering Background: An engineering background, possessing a strong foundation in IT Infrastructure roles, with experience working on operating systems like Linux, Windows and others.
- Solution Focussed: Proven ability to solve problems, make decisions, and prioritise in fast-paced environments.
- Key technical knowledge: Hands-on experience with networking, storage, servers, and automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Terraform, Ansible). Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code (IaC) methodologies. Knowledge of system monitoring, IT security best practices, and cloud technologies (Azure, AWS).
- Regulatory Environments: Experienced working in highly regulated environments, understanding laws and regulations, ideally within Financial Services or Insurance domains.
- Enterprise Technologies: Experience with enterprise solutions such as Citrix, Exchange, and SAN.
- Collaboration: A collaborative leader who fosters teamwork, efficiency, and innovation.
- Customer-focused: Proactive, solution-oriented mindset. Adaptable and willing to challenge existing processes to drive improvements.
- Cyber Security: Background in cybersecurity and cloud migration strategies is a plus.
