Job description

Location: We operate a flexible, hybrid working environment with the candidate required to travel to their closest Arqiva office, either Winchester, Daventry, Chalfont or Emley Moor once or twice a week.

Key Accountabilities:

  1. Provide Network Design function for Datacentre environments working in collaboration with Product, Architecture and Security teams.
  2. Complete planned works and maintenance on the full range of systems and networks within the operating environment, providing leadership and guidance to upgrades and modifications.
  3. Respond to faults and service outages and complete corrective maintenance in line with Arqiva standards, policies and procedures.
  4. Provide technical guidance to projects and support installation, commissioning work and transition into service.
  5. Maintain accurate records, documentation and reporting of actions taken.
  6. Complete testing and measurement to ensure compliance with regulatory, industry and customer requirements.
  7. Provide technical leadership within the team, sharing knowledge and skills and providing mentoring support to engineers and technicians.
  8. Produce work instructions and other appropriate tools and materials to support service and technical delivery.
  9. Contribute to the continuous improvement of operating policies, processes and procedures.
  10. Engage with customers and build positive working relationships.
  11. Supervise the delivery of 3rd party suppliers and contractors to ensure that specifications and standards meet Arqiva requirements.
  12. Where required, assist in the management of the engineering team including planning and supervision of the team, drive innovation, both small and large, into and through the business; deploy and evidence with outcomes, a continuous improvement (CI) mind-set, bring a commercial perspective to the operation, with a particular focus on cash management, cash preservation and optimizing returns on investments made in assets and tools.

Qualifications:

  1. Either (A Higher Education or professional qualification in a relevant discipline) or relevant experience.

Required Expertise:

  1. Significant experience in an operational network support role, with a proven track record of working on and troubleshooting complex, always on critical IP Networks.
  2. Excellent customer facing skills with the ability to take ownership of issues and drive to resolution.
  3. Experienced in producing and reviewing detailed low level network designs and transitioning network services into live environments, with particular emphasis on Datacentre environments.
  4. Technically competent to challenge proposed solutions and designs identifying any risks and oversights with the ability to influence the designs/solution.
  5. Experience in both Service provider and especially Enterprise Data Centre networks.
  6. Excellent coaching and mentoring skills that will be used to increase the technical knowledge base of the team in new and emerging technologies.
  7. The ability to matrix work and lead technical personnel across multiple teams and remote locations.
  8. Ability to undertake continuous personal development, and to lead and direct engineers, to meet the technical requirements of future technologies and project deliverables.

Required Technical / Professional Skillset(s):

  1. At least Cisco CCNP Enterprise/Service Provider/Datacentre or able to demonstrate equivalent experience.
  2. Excellent knowledge of Cisco devices including Nexus switches and ASR 9K routers.
  3. Focus on experience in Data Centre and Cloud network technologies.
  4. Extensive experience of routing, LAN, WAN and DC network protocols, especially VxLAN, BGP, OSPF, redistribution, and VPC redundancy.
  5. Significant experience of designing, implementing and troubleshooting Cisco ACI including multi-tenant/VRF, multi-site, MSO, contracts and route leaking.
  6. A good understanding of network design and operation in a high threat environment.
  7. Experience of Cisco ASA and Checkpoint an advantage.
