Job description

Unity Level/Set Designer - Short Term Contract

Glitch Studios are looking for a 3D environmental set dresser who works in UNITY to join their remote team working on an unannounced VR experience. The position will be a freelancer contract lasting an expected 2-3 months.

The successful candidate will have at a minimum:

  1. Strong verbal and written communication in English. We are an international team with bases in Norway, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
  2. An online portfolio with numerous high-quality examples of 3D environment art and level design.
  3. An artist's eye, clearly showing an intuitive, cohesive, and organic approach to level design.
  4. Effective environmental storytelling communicated through asset placement, vistas, and set pieces.
  5. Experience using realtime game engines such as Unity and Unreal for level design and environmental set dressing.
  6. Intuition and resourceful thinking when assembling cohesive environments from pre-made 3D assets from a variety of diverse sources.
  7. Collaborative and optimistic attitude as well as ability to work proactively and autonomously in order to implement environmental art tasks set by our art director.

Advantages that would be taken into account for the successful candidate include:

  1. Significant experience using Unity, specifically placing of assets, setting up LOD groups.
  2. Basic understanding of Unity's terrain system.
  3. Understanding of the technical limitations faced by VR development.
  4. This is primarily a set dressing role. 3D modelling experience is always helpful; however, it gives a more fundamental understanding of the underlying geometry.
