Job Title: Fire Safety Officer

Location: Newham, London

Duration: 3 - 6 months temp assignment with view for further extension thereafter

Day Rate: £268.58 per day PAYE or £346.05 per day Umbrella

This role will act as an active technical member managing all aspects of fire safety across the Council housing assets ensuring they are maintained and improved. To provide an operational fire safety management function for all Council owned and managed housing assets delivering continuous improvement in resident safety. Supporting compliance with both statutory and non-statutory fire safety legislation and associated building regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Carry out fire risk assessments across all of the council's housing stock.
2. Ensure the FRA programme is delivered on time and to the required standard through the application of a quality assurance programme.
3. Ensure compliance with legislation through the use of performance data, risk assessments, and audits of Council owned and managed housing assets.
4. Act as a subject matter expert for the council, in relation to fire safety.
5. Support, develop, and maintain the Housing Fire Risk Management Policy.
6. Liaise with managers and staff at all levels within the Council implementing fire safety standards and initiatives.
7. Be the specialist fire safety officer for a specific field of fire safety, i.e., sheltered accommodation, temporary housing, vulnerable persons, fire engineering, etc.
8. Identify fire safety priorities and assist in the overall prioritisation within the FRA programme.
9. Provide expert advice and guidance to managers and staff at all levels of the organisation and act as a focal point for the management of fire safety issues.
10. Provide technical expertise to the Fire Safety Manager and the Fire Safety Team to enable their duties to be fulfilled effectively.
11. Provide instruction, training, and guidance as necessary to support the application and adherence to fire safety legislation.
12. Provide specialist knowledge and advice throughout the design and build stages for new developments to ensure compliance with all relevant fire safety legislation and standards.

Key Experience Required:

1. Specialist knowledge of fire safety legislation and its applications to housing.
2. Knowledge of the requirements for good fire safety management and maintenance operations.
3. Knowledge of Fire Risk Assessment process and guidance/best practice (PAS 79).
4. A clear understanding of emerging fire safety and building safety legislation.
5. Knowledge of BS 9999 & BS 9991: code of practice for fire safety in design, management, and use of residential building.
6. A demonstrable understanding of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
7. Experience of managing or advising on fire safety in a medium to large organisation.
8. Experience of working in a building compliance or fire service environment.
