Our award-winning client is in urgent need of a junior engineer to join their expanding team. The Junior Systems Engineer is responsible for deployment, configuration, and maintenance of the client's systems. The role includes assisting with all server-related tasks company-wide and working with the lead system administrator and the software team on new solution designs.

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Junior Systems Engineer is responsible for deployment, configuration, and maintenance of systems. The role includes assisting with all server-related tasks company-wide and working with the lead system administrator and the software team on new solution designs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Setup and configure new or existing database systems with master/slave replication.
• Conduct problem analysis and generate case documentation for escalation.
• Backup existing databases and logs.
• Manage the IT ticket queue.
• Document procedures/policies.
• Manage Servers/Infrastructure (Linux/Windows).
• Implement security policies.
• Maintain and extend monitoring, metrics, and alerting systems using the software platform Site24x7.
• Provide on-call support per rota (also provide escalation).
• Support the company’s obligations regarding Data Protection and Information Security as required.

PROFILE

The role requires someone who is committed to quality, has a high attention to detail, works well with others, and has a can-do attitude. The person will be dealing with problems at their own pace, so good time-management skills are essential.

SKILLS

Ideally, you will be a 2nd jobber or have outstanding academic Linux skills.

You will have had exposure to most of the following at College, University, or your current role:

• MySQL 5.5+ Administration.
• Virtualisation (VMWare/Hyper-V/Xen).
• Network Knowledge (TCP/UDP/VPN/DNS).
• WSUS & Active Directory.
• Monitoring Solutions (Nagios/Cacti/Site24x7).
• Automation technologies (Ansible/Puppet/Chef).
• Ability to triage, prioritise and troubleshoot issues.
• Ability to switch tasks to adapt to business requirements.

• Degree level or equivalent education is expected for this role.
• No specific qualification or certifications are required for this role.
