eCARE Test Analyst Fixed Term Until 31 Jan 2026

Department: IT

Band 5 £29,970 - £36,483 Per annum, pro rata

Hours: 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

The IT Department at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a dynamic, ever-developing, forward-thinking group of people that make up a team that strives to keep the Trust's systems up to date and responsive to cutting edge technologies, whilst ensuring staff at the Trust are supported to continue to deliver at the highest level.

We currently have a temporary opening for the eCARE Test Analyst, to develop test scripts, peer review test scripts, test the eCARE applications (Oracle Cerner Millennium), interfaces and peripherals contributing to the overall testing & quality of applications.

The successful post holder will have experience working in a healthcare environment, including application testing (functional, system & integration) and have familiarity of Oracle Health (Cerner) solutions.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide a comprehensive application support service to all Trust staff that will include the following:
  1. The post holder will require a good understanding of the operation and configuration of the Trust's currently deployed eCARE applications, functionalities and workflow and to ensure that it supports the Trust's business processes and objectives on an ongoing basis.
  2. Under the guidance and direction of the eCARE Development Manager, create comprehensive testing and training materials prior to any supported application being placed into service. Documentation to be used by the IT Technical Support team and system end-users will be required before supported applications are put into service.
  3. Support the testing of clinical application enhancements and new application deployments under the direct supervision of the eCARE Development Manager. Where necessary develop and run test scripts to confirm system reliability and resilience.
  4. Work unsupervised, prioritising own workload and operating on own initiative to answer queries and solve problems, taking advice from eCare Development Manager when necessary.

Job responsibilities

To understand, develop, plan and execute testing and any other test assurance activities for all applications and systems either being put into production or being upgraded in production according to the defined test strategy and approach. This role will involve creating test plans, developing scripts, test cases, test metrics, test reports, running tests and recording outcomes for various functional systems and inter-system communication methods. Plans may require adjustment if any issues are uncovered which need rectifying prior to implementation.

The post-holder will take part in all product testing phases: functional testing, integration testing and user acceptance testing, analysing the test reports to assess whether the applications and systems are sufficient, or if any issues have been uncovered. Ensure that any issues uncovered are reported to local and Provider Service Desks as required and that all reported issues are suitably resolved to the satisfaction of the local business. Under the direction of eCARE Development Manager, ensure any upgraded systems are functionally stable and are fit for purpose prior to implementation.

At the request of the eCARE Development Manager, create and maintain a library of test scripts as required.

Provide both clinical and application solution support to both clinical and non-clinical staff at the request of staff from the IT Technical Services team, to ensure staff have adequate training and guidance in using eCare systems.

Provide application support to the IT Technical Support team and ensure where necessary support documentation is created and made available to other members of the group where this is deemed to be of benefit.

Undertake project work or special tasks in accordance with business requirements and at the request of senior members of the IT Department.

The post-holder will work closely with eCARE Development team, CCIO and CNIO to understand the workflow and expected functionality being delivered so that comprehensive test scripts can be developed.

The post holder will communicate complex systems information with end users, providing advice on how to use the Trust systems to perform their duties. The post holder must be able to empathise with staff when they are having difficulties understanding systems whilst being trained or tutored.

  • Degree in software testing (or equivalent qualification / relevant experience)

  • Experience of writing test scripts and plans for complex system developments and upgrades
  • Experience of evaluating and writing testing requirements within technical specifications or project plans
  • Experience of carrying out testing including the production and maintenance of testing scripts
  • Experience of working with end users to train, promote and execute effective User Acceptance Testing

  • Have previous testing experience in the NHS
