Job description

Are you creative, organised, curious and a great communicator? Are you a positive team player with a passion for sci-fi and fantasy books?

Your team:
Pan is a market-leading division, encompassing all major genres across fiction and non-fiction, and comprising a diverse range of imprints including Pan, Macmillan, Tor, Mantle and Macmillan Business. Tor is the Pan Macmillan imprint that specializes in out-of-this-world speculative fiction, encompassing a wide range of science fiction and fantasy titles, from spicy romantasy reads to Hugo-Award winning sci-fi series. Tor is an internationally-celebrated brand, with sister imprints in the US and Germany, and worldwide distribution channels covering Australia, South Africa, India and beyond. Tor’s talented authors include many who have won prestigious genre awards, and achieved home and international bestseller status.

Your role:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Marketing Executive to join the expanding Pan communications team. You will be working on a broad range of fiction titles for our sci-fi and fantasy imprint Tor, with the occasional opportunity to work on books across other imprints within the Pan division. As well as developing your own sales-driving campaigns, you will be supporting senior marketers to deliver campaigns for some of our biggest books.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Working closely with the marketing team to plan and implement audience-focused, creative and effective campaigns for a wide range of sci-fi and fantasy titles in close collaboration with the publicity and digital teams.
  • Writing compelling, eye-catching copy for a variety of marketing purposes, including book proofs, social content, advertising and more.
  • Creating effective, attention-grabbing assets for your titles and, where appropriate, briefing external designers and producers to create a range of exciting marketing materials.
  • Identifying and honing the most appropriate messaging and targeting for paid social and Amazon advertising campaigns, and briefing the digital team accordingly.
  • Working on your own list of titles, whilst supporting the team in the implementation of our biggest and boldest campaigns.
  • Helping to maintain the Tor social media channels - creating engaging and effective content to grow our online communities.

Essential experience, abilities and knowledge you’ll need to succeed:

  • An avid reader, with a passion for sci-fi and fantasy books and an interest in the UK book market.
  • Resilient and able to work under pressure, highly organised and time-efficient with the ability to juggle multiple tasks and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Strong copywriting skills and an eye for design.
  • A collaborative attitude and strong communication skills.
  • A creative mindset and ability to generate fresh, innovative ideas.

Desirable skills we’d love you to have:

  • Experience in Photoshop or similar design applications desired.
  • Experience with social media management is also desirable.

What you’ll get in return:
In return we can offer you a range of great projects, a supportive and collaborative working environment as well as a competitive salary and benefits package.

Salary starting from: £30,000

Closing date: 5 January 2025

Some of the benefits we offer:

  • 28 days’ annual leave increasing with years of service + bank holidays.
  • Generous pension scheme.
  • Discounted private medical insurance.
  • Group income protection scheme.
  • Enhanced family pay and leave.
  • Flexible working hours and summer hours (early finish on a Friday during summer months).
  • 2 Volunteer Days per year.
  • 75% off all Pan Macmillan books and regular staff book sales (highly reduced rates).
  • Season ticket loan/advance.
  • Cycle to work scheme.
  • Discounts on shopping, Tastecard+ and gym memberships; Christmas club savings.
  • Daily free breakfast and monthly company lunch.

This is a full time, permanent role, and will be based in our offices in Farringdon, London, with some flexibility to work from home each week.
