Job description

We are seeking a talented and experienced Principal or Associate Transport Planner to join a growing team in Bristol. As part of a leading design consultancy, you will play a crucial role in managing and delivering a diverse range of private sector projects, including residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments. You will lead a team of transport planners, mentor junior staff, and work closely with our clients to provide innovative and sustainable transport solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning and delivery of transport assessments, travel plans, and feasibility studies for private sector projects.
  • Manage and mentor a team of transport planners and engineers, overseeing project delivery from concept through to completion.
  • Liaise with clients, local authorities, and stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver effective transport solutions.
  • Undertake project management duties including budgeting, resource allocation, and client communication.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, ensuring high standards of quality and accuracy.
  • Contribute to business development by identifying new opportunities, preparing bids, and attending client meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging transport trends, technologies, and policy changes to provide forward-thinking solutions.

Candidate Profile:

  • A degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or a related field.
  • Chartered status or working towards it (e.g., CIHT, CILT, TPP, or equivalent) is preferred.
  • A minimum of 7+ years' experience in transport planning, preferably within a consultancy environment.
  • Strong project management skills, with a proven track record of successfully delivering complex projects on time and within budget.
  • Experience working on private sector projects, particularly in residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments.
  • Proficiency in transport modelling and analysis software such as Junctions (PICADY/ARCADY), LINSIG, TRICS, or similar tools.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information clearly to clients and stakeholders.
  • A proactive approach with strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
