Job Title: Learning Support Mentor
Location: Southampton, Hampshire
Salary: £12.83 per hour
Start Date: Immediate/ Easter 2025 start
Contract: Full-time, permanent (part-time can also be arranged for the right candidate)

GSL Education are offering an exciting opportunity for a Learning Support Mentor to join a nurturing and inclusive primary school in Southampton. This role is ideal for individuals who are eager to make a meaningful impact on children's education, providing tailored support to help them develop both academically and personally.

About the Role:

As a Learning Support Mentor, you will work closely with pupils, teachers, and SEN staff to foster a positive learning environment. You will provide one-to-one and small-group support, helping students overcome barriers to learning while encouraging their confidence and independence in the classroom.

Responsibilities of the Learning Support Mentor:

  • Assist children across Key Stages 1 and 2, ensuring they receive the academic and emotional support they need.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to implement tailored interventions and support plans.
  • Offer one-to-one and small-group guidance to pupils who require additional learning assistance.
  • Foster an inclusive and engaging classroom environment, promoting positive behaviour and motivation.
  • Help pupils develop social and communication skills to enhance their overall school experience.
  • Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to teachers and SENCOs.
  • Encourage resilience and a growth mindset in young learners.

Requirements of the Learning Support Mentor: To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • Experience working in education, youth work, mentoring, or a related field is desirable.
  • A strong understanding of child development, behaviour management and pastoral care.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and families.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A flexible and adaptable approach to supporting students with varying needs.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
