Job description

Role Overview:

The Contract & Subcontract Engineer will be fully assigned to a major EPC Project for the construction of a power plant with carbon capture technology. Initially based at the Home Office in France, the role will later transition to the construction site in the United Kingdom.

The selected candidate will be embedded within the EPC Contractor's contract management team, focusing on contractual support for subcontracting activities related to the main construction subcontractor. The main subcontract follows the NEC 4 - Option E framework, while the prime contract is a bespoke client contract. The Contract & Subcontract Engineer will assist in claims management, drafting key correspondences, and handling contract-specific matters beyond standard subcontracting responsibilities.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Contract Administration & Management
  • Support the Lead Contract Manager in managing and administering the prime contract, ensuring compliance with relevant policies, standards, and procedures
  • Monitor adherence by all parties to contractual obligations, including notifications, insurances, bonds, certifications, and operational requirements
  • Ensure contractual back-to-back alignment between the prime contract and construction subcontract, assisting in the development of a flow-down plan and negotiation of key terms with subcontractors
  • Provide contractual oversight for the subcontracting team, particularly for post-award activities of the main construction subcontractor
  • Draft, review, and manage incoming and outgoing correspondences on critical contractual matters
  • Support change order and claim negotiations, ensuring alignment with contractual frameworks
  • Assist in the preparation, negotiation, and settlement of amendments, claims, and disputes
  • Collaborate with the Subcontracting Manager to address critical subcontractor issues, particularly in relation to contract execution and field administration up to project close-out
  • Engage with the Legal Team for corporate, compliance, intellectual property, insurance, litigation, and other legal matters, as required
  • Liaise with other internal functions such as treasury and tax departments for contract-related considerations

Additional Information:

  • Contract Duration: Approximately 3-4 years (6-12 months in France, 2-3 years in the United Kingdom)
  • Flexibility Required: Scope may evolve based on project needs

Requirements

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: Degree in Law, Contract Management, Engineering
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience in contract management, subcontract administration, or procurement within large-scale EPC projects
    • Strong understanding of NEC 4 contracts, particularly Option E, and experience with bespoke client contracts
    • Experience in managing claims, change orders, and contract negotiations
    • Familiarity with construction field administration and contract close-out procedures
  • Technical & Soft Skills:
    • Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills
    • Ability to interpret and apply contractual provisions, risk assessments, and dispute resolution strategies
    • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
    • Proficiency in MS Office and contract management software/tools
    • Ability to work in a multicultural, fast-paced environment, adapting to evolving project scopes
    • Candidates must have the legal right to work in the UK without the need for visa sponsorship
