Morson Technical Services are currently seeking a Health, Safety and Environmental Support Officer to join the current team at RNAS Yeovilton on a permanent basis.


JOB PURPOSE

Operate under the direction of the HSE Controller to support the Management of all HSE functions.

  1. Planning, Organising and facilitating all WMS HSE training at RNAS Yeovilton.
  2. Risk Assessor.
  3. Laser Safety Representative.
  4. Radiation Protection Representative.

JOB ACTIVITIES

Appointed as WMS Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Support responsible for:

  1. Supporting all HSE functions specified in WMS Operating Procedures (OP).
  2. Active involvement in Planning, Organising and facilitating all WMS HSE training at RNAS Yeovilton.
  3. Coordination and control of SHPERA functions with regards to support of the HSE Controller.
  4. Responsible for ensuring that all HSE measures meet statutory requirements as well as Company and Authority requirements ensuring ISO 45001 compliance.
  5. Advising the HSE Controller and management of any risks or conflicting requirements.
  6. Control and implement HSE Risk Assessment programmes including the co-ordination of measures to minimise identified risks.
  7. Carry out Quarterly HSE Audits on the organisation as directed by the HSE Controller on behalf of Leonardo Helicopters’ HSE Department, compiling and distributing the WMS HSE Objectives and Departmental Safety Plan.
  8. Report all accidents and incidents on the Leonardo Helicopters’ SPHERA system and carry out any investigations as required.
  9. Carry out Internal HSE Audits as directed by the HSE Controller on behalf of Leonardo Helicopters’ HSE Department and control the Health and Safety documentation, keeping records of all HSE related Accidents, Incidents and Occurrences.
  10. Ensure that any Lasers used by WMS are used iaw current Laser Safety instructions detailed in Yeovilton Aviation Maintenance Orders (YAMOs) and the Wildcat Compound Interactive Electronic Technical Publication (CIETP).
  11. Liaise with RNAS Yeovilton Radiation Protection Officer.
  12. Assist in the management of all WMS radiological equipment iaw the regulations contained in JSP392 (Management of Radiation Protection) and (YAMOs) ensuring all minor radiation sources are recorded.
  13. Report the spillage of, or damage to, radioactive material and report any processes that are carried out in such a manner as to expose personnel unnecessarily to ionising radiation.
  14. Proactive involvement in the control of environmental standards and procedures within WMS, to meet the requirements of the Leonardo Helicopters’ Environmental Policy and Procedures (EPP) document and the Air Station Environmental Policy.
  15. Participate in the completion and evaluation of all WMS Environmental Risk Assessments to meet RNAS Yeovilton requirements.
  16. Provide Training for WMS personnel nominated for HSE responsibilities. Liaise with the organisation for Initial, Continuation and Refresher Training as necessary.
  17. Ensure that all WMS personnel have access to advice and information on all HSE matters and that constant publicity is given to this subject.
  18. Participate in induction training for all new WMS employees and visitors on the Health and Safety measures in force. All new employees are to receive an on-site induction brief. Records are to be retained in their Personal Competency Folders.
  19. Ensuring that all HSE issues and concerns are correctly raised to the WSQRM for presentation at the Engineering Management Meeting.
  20. Ensure that all HSE issues are correctly raised at area managers’ engineering meetings. Decisions taken and actions agreed are to be appropriately recorded and implemented satisfactorily.
  21. Liaison with Leonardo Helicopters’ Safety and Health department as well as the Air Station HSE Department on matters relevant to WMS.
  22. Active involvement in the sponsorship of company Operating Procedures.
  23. Provide reasonable support to other Support Service positions during times of absence due to holidays etc. and peak activity periods.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Preferably, a minimum of 3 years’ experience within the Military Aviation Environment (MAE) in an Occupational Safety / Environmental role or equivalent civilian status, with a thorough understanding of the MAE, its associated policies and Occurrence reporting.
  2. NEBOSH - General Certificate in Occupational Safety & Health.
  3. Preferably Radiation Protection Supervisor qualified.
  4. Appropriate training will be given on appointment IAW MAM-P, Chapter 2.1 – Engineering Authorisations. (Manual Handling Techniques, Overhead Gantry, Laser Safety etc.)
  5. Preferably, ISO 45001:2018 Lead Auditor.
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills and a confident, effective approach to personal communications.
  7. Demonstrate Initiative, Enthusiasm and Diligence and maintain a Tenacious commitment to high standards.
  8. Ability to communicate confidently with Senior Management, customers and staff by effectively expressing ideas and information clearly and concisely in both verbal and visual form.
