Job Title: Finance Operations Lead

Location: UK - Remote

Salary: Negotiable (Starting around £75,000+)

Overview:

A dynamic and growing organisation in the life sciences sector is seeking an experienced Finance Operations Lead to join its finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the operational management of a cloud-based enterprise accounting system, ensuring accurate financial reporting, a robust control framework, and continuous finance process improvements.

Responsibilities:

Scope of Responsibility / Level of Oversight & Decision-Making

• Manage and optimise the company’s cloud-based enterprise accounting system.
• Prepare, review, and analyse monthly financial statement accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheet reconciliations, and cash flow forecasts.
• Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
• Support the finance team in the preparation of statutory financial statements and coordination of external audits.
• Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Interaction

• Engage with stakeholders across various departments to provide financial insights and operational support.
• Occasionally liaise with external clients regarding financial matters such as account collections and system-related queries.
• Act as the global subject matter expert for the organisation’s accounting system, ensuring consistency and best practices in its usage.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Responsibility for Accounting System

• Oversee the management and optimisation of the cloud-based accounting system to improve financial reporting, automation, and efficiency.
• Ensure data integrity and accuracy, overseeing system updates and integrations.
• Provide training and support to finance and non-finance stakeholders on system functionalities.
• Identify and implement system improvements aligned with evolving business needs.

Financial Controls and Processes

• Develop and maintain robust financial control processes.
• Ensure accurate reconciliation of accounts and timely resolution of discrepancies.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to streamline accounting processes and enhance efficiency.
• Support compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements.

Financial Management and Reporting

• Collaborate with the Business Analytics team to provide financial data and insights for quarterly budget reviews and client contracts.
• Prepare, review, and analyse monthly management accounts, including key reconciliations and forecasts.
• Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support strategic decision-making.
• Work with the Finance Manager to prepare statutory financial statements and coordinate audits.

Qualifications:

Education:

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).

Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of experience in a financial environment.
• Hands-on experience with cloud-based enterprise accounting systems (e.g., Intacct or similar).
• Prior experience in a Contract Research Organization (CRO) or a project-based financial environment preferred.
• Familiarity with investigator payment processing systems (e.g., Greenphire) is desirable.
• Strong technical accounting skills with a comprehensive understanding of financial reporting standards.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modelling.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with great attention to detail.
• Ability to manage complex financial data effectively.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proactive, self-motivated, and adaptable to change.
