Job description

Band 2 MSW - Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Location: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital

The role will include working shifts, days and nights including weekends and bank holidays. Shift timings are 0730-2000 or 1930-0800.

What We Offer:
  • To assist the midwives and support the woman, her family and colleagues through all maternity services including adverse outcomes, i.e. stillbirth, miscarriage, following appropriate training.
  • To ensure a safe clinical environment and high standard of personal care for women, their babies and their families in all clinical areas.
  • To assist mothers in the maintenance of personal hygiene and physical comfort at all times.
  • Participate in the activities necessary to ensure safe care is provided to women antenatal, at birth and postnatal, and demonstrate an ability to recognize obstetric or neonatal emergencies and respond appropriately, i.e. calling for emergency help, contacting, by phone, the emergency team.
  • Assist in the education of mothers and their partners with the demonstration of basic functions regarding care of their newborn infant, at the request of, and under the direct supervision of, the midwife.
  • Carry out, and accurately record on a MEOW’s chart, maternal clinical measurements (Blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiration rate, oxygen saturations, identifying blood loss/severity of pain and urinalysis) at the request of the midwife, following the relevant training.
  • Be part of a dynamic, professional and supportive team committed to providing high standards of care and also committed to the training and development of our Maternity Support Worker.
