Job Title: Project Manager (Investments)

Report To: Head of Project Delivery

Role Purpose:

To be involved in the delivery of Bluefield's new build solar and BESS project pipeline, managing specific projects from acquisition to EPC signature and working with the construction team to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget and to the highest quality.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Represent and manage the company's and its external funders' interests, through assuming responsibility for the commercial management of Bluefield's project pipeline, from planning approval through the EPC construction phase, to commissioning.
  • Be part of the team that runs the tender process and contract negotiation of EPC, ICP and other key contractors, including the management of milestone payments and any retentions and/or liquidated damage and retentions.
  • Work closely with Bluefield colleagues (principally the Development, Engineering and Construction Management teams) and external contractors to:
    • Ensure projects are constructed on time and on budget to the highest standards and fully in line with the agreed contracts and all relevant statutory and Bluefield CDM, HSEQ and planning requirements.
    • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with contractors and key stakeholders through the construction process, including EPCs, ICPs, DNOs, landowners and the local community.
    • Ensure each plant is compliant with relevant Ofgem and connection regulations and requirements in preparation for post commissioning operations.
    • Develop and manage project plans, budgets, work programmes, risk profiles and associated documents, hold contractors to account on progress and report regularly to senior staff, both internally and to project funders where required.
    • Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path.
    • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans.
    • Monitor the status of the project to ensure contractors' documentation is submitted according to schedule and contract.
    • Handover to AM outstanding Punch List issues, defects, and performance LDs with EPC Contractors at PAC, as appropriate.
  • Work closely with the Group ESG team to ensure Bluefield's ESG policies and commitments are variously met, calculated and reported, including PQQ for potential EPC contractors, BNG measurements, ecological contractor liaison etc.
  • Establish and maintain KPIs and progress/key activity trackers for all construction projects, including fixed and variable costs benchmarking.
  • Working collaboratively with the asset management team, design and populate a handover pack for each project, in order that asset management services commence post-commissioning.
  • Ensure commercial responsibility for a plant post-commissioning, working collaboratively with the appointed asset manager to confirm the EPC contractor's obligations are met through the commissioning phase to PAC/equivalent. Prepare and manage the handover of the operational asset at PAC to Bluefield's asset management company and the appointed Commercial Manager.

Ad Hoc Duties:

As a member of a small team, you will be required to participate in all aspects of the business of Bluefield which may also include appropriate tasks outside of the primary duties and responsibilities. This may involve, as required by business needs, undertaking site visits to the development and construction projects or constructed plants, as required by your role. On occasion, this may involve overnight stays in suitable hotel accommodation.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Engineering (electrical, mechanical, civil engineering or other) or related degree or diploma.
  • Project management qualification (PRINCE2 or similar).
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in managing construction projects, with preference for experience of utility scale renewable projects.
  • Negotiation, facilitation, risk management and consensus building skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, manage projects, and execute in a fast-paced and dynamic environment with a strong ownership mentality.
  • Expert knowledge of creating business requirements, work plans, project schedules and associated project resources.
  • Professional-level capabilities with project management tools (e.g., MS 365 and Microsoft Project).
  • Proven ability to work successfully both independently and within a team.
  • Self-motivated with demonstrated problem-solving capability.

Job Location:

Based in London, with business travel. Hybrid working available (minimum 3 days per week in office).

Hours of Work:

This role is primarily Monday to Friday from 09:00am to 17:30pm but will routinely involve longer hours. You may occasionally be required to stay away overnight for periods of time to facilitate meetings, conferences and group duties.
