Job Summary:

Work Location: Bristol (Client Site) with Hybrid Work Options

We are seeking an experienced Design Approver/Signatory with a strong background in aircraft structures and airframe design engineering development. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 8 to 12 years of experience in lead design activities, acting as a Technical Focal for projects. Prior experience working on eVTOL aircraft design, build, and testing is highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide design and build services for prototype electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
  • Act as Design Check Level authority, preparing and reviewing composite and metallic structural definitions.
  • Deliver professional design engineering services, including design and design checking.
  • Lead the creation and cross-checking of model-based definitions within the 3D Experience digital mock-up (DMU).
  • Collaborate with relevant engineering teams to ensure design compatibility and continuity, especially with Systems Integration teams.
  • Report through the designated Lead Engineer to the relevant Design Lead for the program.
  • Participate in key meetings and design reviews at customer facilities, with hybrid work options available.
  • Define design solutions for new components/assemblies and modifications to existing components (composite and metallic) in line with cost, weight, quality, manufacturability, serviceability, and performance.
  • Provide evidence of design compliance with customer and technical specifications.
  • Prepare engineering drawings and data required for manufacturing and submission to the customer.
  • Generate Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) to support manufacturing, customers, quality, and certification requirements.
  • Ensure quality of deliverables, verifying, checking, and signing off engineering drawings.
  • Lead progress review meetings with the customer project team, reporting on work package progress.
  • Manage the execution of work packages, aligning delivery plans with customer requirements.
  • Define and manage budgets required for work package execution.
  • Allocate and coordinate technical activities within onsite/offsite teams.
  • Track and report KPIs and budget alignment for ongoing work packages.

Must Have Skillset:

  • Design Approver/Signatory authority on airframe structures (metallic and/or composite).
  • Extensive knowledge of aerospace structures, including wing, empennage, and fuselage design.
  • Expertise in CATIA V5 and computerised design and analysis methods.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Experience with composite (honeycomb) and metallic materials and aerospace manufacturing processes.
  • Strong customer focus with the ability to establish credibility with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Basic understanding of stress analysis principles.
  • Awareness of aircraft industry standards, regulations, and qualification requirements.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and customer demands.
  • Experience working in integrated project teams.

Desired Skillset:

  • Experience with Dassault 3D Experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Teams.
  • Knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (Windchill).
