Job description

Buyer

Salary – £34K+ per annum (plus benefits)
Hours – 37.5 hours per week, 8.30am to 5.00pm
Location – Remote

As a Buyer at FCC Environment, you will be responsible for the procurement and management of third-party supply chain services whilst promoting best buying practices. You will report to the Supply Chain Manager and work closely with suppliers to negotiate pricing, manage service agreements, and ensure compliance with UK environmental regulations.

This vacancy is for a full-time position, working 5 days per week.

What will you be doing?

  1. Identifying, evaluating, and onboarding new waste disposal and recycling service providers.
  2. Negotiating pricing, proposed increases, and service agreements to secure cost-effective solutions.
  3. Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers to ensure best-fit service delivery.
  4. Managing the procurement process to obtain competitive rates for waste services.
  5. Overseeing supplier quoting processes to ensure timely and competitive pricing.
  6. Providing accurate costings for sales teams and contributing to pricing strategy discussions.
  7. Managing bid and tender processes by obtaining and analysing supplier proposals.
  8. Ensuring all waste service providers comply with UK environmental regulations.
  9. Conducting due diligence on suppliers to verify legal and environmental compliance.
  10. Resolving service issues, disputes, and supplier non-conformance.
  11. Analysing procurement data to identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements.
  12. Acting as the initial point of contact for internal and external procurement queries.

What are we looking for?

  1. Waste experience is essential.
  2. Previous experience in subcontractor procurement within the waste management sector.
  3. Strong knowledge of hazardous and non-hazardous waste management.
  4. Proven track record in supplier relationship management and negotiations.
  5. Experience in supply chain operations with an understanding of best procurement practices.
  6. High level of proficiency in MS Office and data analysis.
  7. Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  8. Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.
  9. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  10. Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel as required.
