Job description

Senior Accountant

Team: Finance

Location: Manchester, Hybrid

Salary:£40k plus we are happy to provide study support for accountancy qualification!

Your mission

As a Senior Accountant, you will be a key member of the finance team, contributing to both financial reporting and operational finance activities. You will take ownership of preparing weekly and periodic reports, providing actionable insights that support data-driven decision-making across the organisation.

You will oversee the activities of our outsourced finance team, ensuring timely and accurate processing of financial records and that we maintain strong communication with suppliers and internal stakeholders.

An important part of this role will be driving process improvement and shaping the Finance function into a best-in-class operation as it continues to scale in the UK and US markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Month-End Responsibilities: Ensure that month-end tasks are completed accurately and within agreed deadlines. This includes key reconciliations, accurate journal entries, and supporting the preparation of management accounts, along with providing insightful commentary and commercial analysis on financial performance.
  • Purchase Ledger: Work closely with the outsourced team to ensure smooth running of the purchase ledger function, including reviewing weekly payment runs, staff expenses, and preparing ad-hoc payments.
  • Weekly Reporting: Prepare and take ownership of the weekly flash reports to ensure that wider internal and external stakeholders are updated on financial performance across the group.
  • Weekly Cashflow Forecasts: Prepare the weekly cashflow forecast, ensuring the company has a clear view of its liquidity needs.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement enhancements to finance processes and systems, focusing on leveraging technology and automation to optimise operations.
  • Payroll: Take ownership of the payroll process and weekly driver billing, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Project Work and Stakeholder Engagement: Engage in various finance-related projects and collaborate with other stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.
  • Audit Assistance: Assist with the preparation of audit evidence and ensure compliance with statutory and internal financial controls.
  • General Finance Support: Support the finance team with ad-hoc tasks and projects as needed.
