Job description

Astute's Power Team is partnered with a major waste management and energy company to recruit for Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation (EC&I) Technicians to join their brand new Energy from Waste Power Station in Essex.


The vital EC&I Technician role comes with a salary between £45,000 - £50,000 + 6% call out allowance (on basic salary) + overtime + bonus + excellent benefits.

Responsibilities and duties

Reporting to the EC&I Maintenance Team Leader, you will be responsible for:

  1. Carrying out fault finding, planned, reactive and breakdown maintenance activities on all EC&I assets to maximise plant availability including pressure, level, temperature and flow sensors and control systems (DCS, PLCs) and electrical equipment.
  2. Assisting during major maintenance periods, shutdowns, outages etc. when required to ensure maximum plant availability and efficiency.
  3. Working alongside other technicians in the maintenance team in diagnosing faults and assisting/suggesting equipment upgrades.
  4. Maintaining accurate maintenance records using the site CMMS.
  5. Supervising and directing on site contractors when required.
  6. Working closely with the EPC team during the commissioning phase of the plant through to full operations.
  7. Working within the company health, safety and environmental processes and procedures at all times.

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  1. Ideally have an NVQ Level 3 qualification in a relevant engineering discipline such as Electrical & Engineering, Measurement and Control, etc.
  2. A health and safety qualification such as an IOSH will be highly advantageous.

Personal skills, prior experience and knowledge

The EC&I Technician role would suit someone who has:

  1. Hands-on maintenance experience gained in a heavy process environment such as Power Generation (EfW, CHP, Biomass, CCGT, Coal, etc).
  2. Experience working with motors, variable speed drives, switchgears, PLC systems, etc.
  3. Experience with CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems).
  4. This role will be suitable for Royal/Merchant Navy Marine Engineers who are considering a move into the Power Generation sector.
  5. Experience working with HV equipment will be highly advantageous.
