We are exclusively hiring for a newly created, high-impact role with a leading global energy trading business, known for its strong presence in LNG markets, oil and gas, innovative risk management strategies, and commitment to excellence in trading operations.

As the Market Risk & Middle Office Manager, you will report directly to the Head of Market Risk and play a key role in overseeing risk exposure and middle office operations across oil and gas trading activities. This is a hands-on leadership position, well-suited for an experienced risk professional looking to shape best-in-class risk frameworks and drive operational improvements in a fast-paced trading environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage market risk oversight and middle office controls across crude oil, LNG, refined products, and natural gas trading portfolios.
• Monitor, assess, and challenge market risk exposures to ensure trading activities align with the company’s risk appetite, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
• Enhance risk models, including VaR, stress testing, and scenario analysis, to optimise risk measurement and improve risk-adjusted decision-making.
• Oversee P&L attribution, mark-to-market valuations, and risk reporting, ensuring accurate and timely insights for senior stakeholders.
• Strengthen risk controls, trade validation, and position reporting to enhance middle office processes and ensure integrity in risk management frameworks.
• Collaborate closely with trading, finance, operations, and compliance teams to improve governance and reporting structures across global markets.
• Drive innovation in trading platforms, data analytics, and automation, improving efficiency and risk transparency.
• Design and maintain key risk frameworks, including setting VaR limits, stop-loss thresholds, and capital allocation policies to align with the company’s strategic goals.
• Develop and mentor junior professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement in risk and middle office functions.

Key Requirements:

• Strong knowledge of market risk and middle office functions within an oil and gas, LNG, or energy trading environment.
• Deep understanding of commodity trading markets, financial derivatives (futures, swaps, options), and risk management principles.
• Experience monitoring a gas trading portfolio, including exposure to pricing models and risk analytics.
• Proven leadership and stakeholder management experience, with the ability to engage with traders, finance teams, and senior leadership.
• Technical proficiency in quantitative risk analysis, statistical modeling, and tools such as VaR, stress testing, and scenario analysis.
• Advanced Excel skills; familiarity with SQL, Python, or database query tools is highly desirable.
• Experience working with a CTRM (Commodity Trading & Risk Management) system.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple priorities while ensuring risk governance remains at the highest standard.
