Our client is a well-regarded, friendly, and ambitious multidisciplinary consultancy, combining expertise in ecology, arboriculture, and landscape design. As a CIEEM Registered Practice, they provide professional ecological support services across development projects, working with private sector clients, local authorities, and government bodies.

Based on the South Coast, this role offers a fantastic lifestyle balance, working across London and the Southeast, with occasional projects further afield.

About the Role

Location: Worthing, South Coast
Salary: Consultant Ecologists – £28,000 – £34,000 | Senior Ecologists – £35,000 – £45,000 (dependent on experience)

This is an exciting opportunity for Consultant and Senior Ecologists to join a dynamic team and contribute to a wide range of ecological consultancy projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and Protected Species Surveys, with a particular focus on bats.
  • Developing and implementing Protected Species Mitigation Schemes and Ecological Enhancement Plans.
  • Conducting Biodiversity Net Gain Assessments and other ecological consultancy work.
  • Producing high-quality reports that inform planning applications and conservation efforts.
  • Balancing fieldwork and office-based tasks, with seasonal variations in workload.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior team members (for Senior Ecologists).
About You

We are looking for passionate and experienced ecologists who are confident in delivering ecological assessments, surveys, and mitigation plans, while effectively engaging with clients and stakeholders.

Essential Requirements (Both Roles)
  • Experience in UK ecological consultancy with a strong foundation in ecological surveying and reporting.
  • At least one protected species licence (e.g., bats, great crested newts, dormice).
  • Associate Membership of CIEEM (or working towards Full Membership for Senior Ecologists).
  • Strong knowledge of British flora and fauna, wildlife legislation, and the planning system.
  • Experience with Biodiversity Net Gain assessments.
  • Excellent report writing skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to support and review the work of others, fostering teamwork and nurturing talent.
  • Full driving licence required for site visits.
Additional Requirements for Senior Ecologists:
  • Minimum two years of experience in UK ecological consultancy.
  • Full Membership of CIEEM (or in the process of applying).
  • Level 2 Bat Licence (highly desirable).
  • Proven experience in leading surveys, managing projects, and mentoring junior staff.
