We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join our Blood Transfusion team as a Band 7 Senior Biomedical Scientist at the Scarborough Hospital Site as part of the Scarborough, Hull, York Pathology Services (SHYPS) Network.
You must be a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registered Biomedical Scientist, and hold an appropriate post graduate qualification that includes Blood Transfusion speciality (MSc or HSD). Experience of quality management/audit and leadership experience would be advantageous.
The Blood Transfusion Laboratory is equipped with Grifols Gel Column technology and has two Eflexis analysers and a DG Reader for manual card reading. It has a well-established Haemonetics Blood tracking system in use and successfully delivers remote Electronic issue at its satellite Lab locations. The Department is currently using Telepath LIMS but is nearing the end of the implementation and Validation phase of a new LIMS (Winpath Enterprise).
The post holder will take delegated responsibility for day-to-day operational matters of the Blood Transfusion section of the department, and deputise for the Chief Biomedical Scientist on technical matters in their absence. They will supervise, train and develop subordinate staff, including Biomedical Scientist (BMS), Trainee Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners and Medical Laboratory Assistants (MLA) ensuring that proficiency, competence, and personal and professional standards of that group are maintained.
The Post Holder will work closely and alongside senior BMS colleagues at the York site to ensure harmonisation of procedures and policies, and along with the Chief Biomedical Scientist, that MHRA compliance and UKAS accreditation is maintained.
