Job Description:

Higher Level Teaching Assistant – HLTA - ASD – SEMH – Permanent – Leatherhead

The School:

Secondary/post 16 learning centre for young people with ASD/SEMH, based in the heart of the community in Effingham, Surrey. This is a new school that is part of an already established group of schools that has a proven track record of providing outstanding levels of education to SEN students. With that in mind, it’s a really exciting time to join. The school has close links with other schools in the community and it forms part of a larger groups of specialist school settings.

Purpose of the role:

You will be required to provide support to the children with their learning and care whilst in school and other settings. The successful applicant will offer a tailored approach to individual children, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential in a caring and safe environment.

Hours and salary:

* 40 hours per week, term time only, 8.30am-4.30pm, flexibility within these hours is essential and you are required to work till 5pm one day a week for staff training and meetings.
* This is a permanent role. The actual salary is £26,265.95 - £28,660.26– depending on experience.
* You will also receive a £2000 joining bonus in the first year of employment.

Responsibilities:

* As our Higher Level Teaching Assistant, your role will be to assist in providing high quality, challenging and differentiated educational activities and sensory experiences through the teaching of a broad and balanced curriculum to a small classroom of ASD and SEMH students.
* You will be expected to know and understand the curriculum planning and to plan, prepare and deliver assigned programmes of teaching and learning activities to individual, small groups and/or classes modifying and adapting activities as necessary within agreed systems of supervision.
* Additionally you’ll support the day to day running of classes across the school and take the lead in the absence of a Class teacher, and assess, record and report on development, progress and attainment.

Requirements and application process:

* Post graduate qualification in psychology or criminology is desirable but not essential.
* HLTA status is highly desirable; if you do not have it, then you will need prior experience as a HLTA.
* Experience of working in a special school environment is desirable.
* Team TEACH Training- desirable.
* A positive, proactive attitude with a genuine desire to work with students that have additional learning and behavioural needs.
