Main duties of the job- To work as a prime care provider in all aspects of midwifery care. To work flexibly within the team to provide 24-hour cover on the postnatal ward. This will require rotation between day/night duty across the week.
- The post holder is expected to be an expert clinical midwife who will give advice and guidance on the midwifery care of women and pregnant people, babies, and their families.
- To provide midwifery care for in-patients during the postnatal period.
- To support the day-to-day running of the Edith Dare Ward including multidisciplinary ward rounds.
- Be a mentor to qualified midwives, students, and support staff.
- To work collaboratively with the Ward managers and Matrons to provide and develop a high-quality, safe, and effective service.
- To work collaboratively with patients and user representatives to develop the service in response to feedback received including local and national initiatives.
- Directly responsible for staff management, recruitment, health and safety, audits, and standard setting.
- Maintain a high standard of professional expertise to ensure safe and evidence-based care is provided in a specific area.

Person SpecificationEducation/ qualificationsEssential- Midwifery degree or equivalent
- Mentorship or full SSSA preparation
- Registered Midwife (on NMC register)
DesirableExperienceEssential- Completed 1 year post-registration clinical experience working as an RM in the UK
- Completed preceptorship course if applicable
Desirable- Scrubbing in theatre
- Worked within a continuity of carer pathway previously
Skills/knowledge/ abilitiesEssential- The ability to be flexible
- IV drugs administration and cannulation
- Understanding and knowledge of fetal monitoring
- Excellent clinical decision-making skills
Desirable- FSRH letter of competency for contraceptive implant insertion
