Role Overview:

The company is seeking an experienced Steel Detailer to join their team near Exeter, Devon. The successful candidate will play a key role in producing detailed steel structure designs, planning application drawings, and construction drawings for site works. This is a dynamic role with opportunities for growth in multiple directions, depending on the individual’s experience and interests.

Key Responsibilities:

• Produce accurate and detailed shop and fabrication drawings for steel structures, including portal frames and bespoke agricultural or industrial buildings.
• Prepare plans for planning applications and develop construction drawings to support site works.
• Interpret architectural and structural engineering designs to create clear, practical, and efficient fabrication and erection plans.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects, and construction teams to ensure designs meet project requirements.
• Conduct site visits for surveys, as-built drawings, or amendments as necessary.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and ensure compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
• Support the preparation of as-built drawings and site documentation.

Requirements:

• Ideally 5-6 years of experience in steel detailing or a similar role in the construction sector.
• Proficiency in steel detailing software such as AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, or similar.
• Experience or understanding of AutoCAD is highly beneficial.
• Strong knowledge of steel fabrication, erection processes, and construction techniques.
• Familiarity with preparing plans for planning applications and construction drawings for site works.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy under pressure.
• Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
• Willingness to work from the office, with occasional remote working and site visits as required.
• Cladding detailing experience is desirable.
