We are seeking a Lead Speech and Language Therapist (experience equivalent to Band 7) to join our multidisciplinary team at Blackheath Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre. In this role, you will be supported by our Head of Therapies to lead and develop the SLT service, providing expert assessment and therapy to individuals with complex neurological conditions, including brain injury, stroke, and progressive neurological disorders. You will work closely with a skilled and supportive team of professionals, contributing to patient-centred rehabilitation plans that maximise communication and swallowing outcomes.

This is an exciting opportunity to drive service improvements, provide clinical leadership, and support junior colleagues in their professional development. If you have a strong background in neurological rehabilitation, a commitment to evidence-based practice, and a passion for making a difference, we would love to hear from you!

What you'll be working:

Our standard working hours are 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. However, we understand the importance of a positive work-life balance, and therefore, if you require some flexibility to better suit your personal or professional needs, we encourage you to discuss this with us, and we will do our best to accommodate your preferences where possible.

What you'll be doing:

  • Carry out comprehensive Speech and Language Therapy assessments (standardised and non-standardised) and outcome measurement as an autonomous practitioner for patients with highly complex neurological presentations following acquired and traumatic brain injury.
  • Use clinical reasoning skills and knowledge of evidence-based practice to determine appropriate care pathways utilising specialist treatment skills and options.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation and evaluation of individualised treatment programmes and goals and provide advice to the Speech and Language Therapy and wider inter-disciplinary team.
  • Develop comprehensive Speech and Language Therapy discharge plans, referring to and liaising with relevant community services.
  • Always manage clinical risk within own caseload and support the clinical lead in managing clinical risk across the Speech and Language Therapy team.
  • Ensure that qualified Speech and Language Therapy staff receive regular clinical supervision, annual appraisals and comprehensive personal development plans.
  • Provide clinical advice and support to the Speech and Language Therapy Team along with support staff and students.
  • Attend relevant local meetings that have a direct impact on the Speech and Language Therapy team e.g. Clinical Governance and Team Meetings.
  • Contribute to Centre based audits.
  • Keep people safe from harm and protect their human rights.

What you'll have:

  • HCPC registration.
  • Post graduate dysphagia training.
  • Extensive experience working within a neurorehabilitation setting.
  • Ability to independently manage a complex case load.
  • Experience in supervising junior SLT team members, writing appraisals and action plans.
  • Active involvement in service development projects.
  • Successful candidates will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS.

What to look forward to:

  • Free lunch when on duty.
  • Birthday off.
  • 25 days plus bank holidays.
  • Join the Active Learning Hub and benefit from a wide range of e-learning and face-to-face training and development opportunities.
  • Active Reward App giving discounts and savings on your weekly shop.
  • Free 24 hour confidential Employee Assistance Programme Helpline & App to support with legal, health, wellbeing, relationship and consumer advice.
  • A salary sacrifice Aegon 5% matched pension account.
