Job Summary

We are currently looking for an experienced Regional Manufacturing Manager to provide clear and strong professional leadership within the North of England. This is a vital role within the NHS Blood and Transplant – we are working to save and improve lives on a daily basis, and have to be certain that every aspect of our work is undertaken in precisely the right way in order to ensure that people’s lives are in good hands.

You will report to the Regional Operations Manager for the North and be a key member of the North Senior Management Team to deliver and develop the Operational strategy & service across NHSBT. You will be responsible for co-ordinating and delivering an efficient, cost effective, high throughput Manufacturing Department. This will involve maintaining regulatory compliance by monitoring all associated systems and processes ensuring that any failures are analysed and corrective action is initiated and validated in a timely fashion.

You will be required to manage the staff and budget for the Regional Manufacturing team, as well as contributing to the development of our wider national future service improvement plans.

This is a high profile and complex role, requiring advanced communication skills, strong management and leadership skills, and a professional approach to working life. Just as important is a strong background in Manufacturing, with significant experience of working in a healthcare regulated environment.

Main duties of the job

• Lead the preparation of the Regional Manufacturing Department for MHRA inspection and maintain compliance at all times.
• Manage the Regional Manufacturing Department:
• Co-ordinate and deliver an efficient, cost effective, high throughput Manufacturing Dept.
• Work with a range of stakeholders across the supply chain to ensure the sufficiency and adequacy of a range of blood components.
• Maintain regulatory compliance by monitoring all associated systems and processes ensuring that any failures are analysed and corrective action is initiated and validated in a timely fashion.
• Provide clear leadership to departmental staff and develop a multi-skilled, diverse and flexible workforce of appropriate skill mix, capable of meeting the challenges of a dynamic manufacturing environment.
• Manage the budget and physical assets of the department ensuring optimal utilisation of all resources to meet financial targets.
• Set and monitor performance indicators in conjunction with the Regional Operations Manager ensuring that the required performance is achieved.
• Promote and develop a culture of customer focus and service excellence.
• Participate in the Critical Incident Planning rota.

About You

Experience and Knowledge

• Significant experience as a senior manager working within NHSBT or wider NHS arena, Pharmaceutical or Manufacturing background.
• Experienced in handling employee grievances/conflicts.
• Experience of setting objectives for direct reports and undertaking performance reviews.
• Experience in budget management.
• Experienced participant in audits, validation and development projects.
• Experience of chairing high level meetings and staff negotiations.
• Experience in audits, validation and development projects.

Qualifications and Training

• Masters level or equivalent professional qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience.
• Member of a professional body e.g. British Blood Transfusion Society, Institute of Biomedical Science would be desirable.
• Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD).
