Job overview

We are seeking a mental health nurse, social worker, psychologist or any Allied Health Professional registered with a professional body to join our Duty and Assessment team. You will provide a range of high quality interventions appropriate to the child or young person’s needs which will include mental state assessment, risk assessment and management, family and social assessment, consultation, formulation and evidence based interventions. The post holder will have a range of skills and knowledge base to deliver clinical aspects of the role in a multi-disciplinary team setting and will be competent to do this work as an autonomous practitioner within professional practice guidelines. The post holder is also expected to promote and develop partnerships and interface with other professionals and agencies that work within the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services framework.

Main duties of the job
  1. To assume responsibility for management of a defined caseload and exercise the highest standards of professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of children, young people and their families/carers using specialist knowledge and evaluation of care programmes in collaboration with children, young people and their families/carers, liaising with and referring to relevant agencies.
  2. To participate in a duty rota including receipt and screening of referrals, obtaining further information if needed and responding promptly to emergency requests for assessments or contact, signposting, and advice.
  3. To undertake assessment of children, young people including risk assessment, gathering appropriate information from their family/carers and other relevant agencies.
  4. To develop a formulation and plan for intervention with the child, young person and parents/carers. Communicate this to the referrer/other relevant professionals.
  5. To offer therapeutic, evidence-based practiced interventions in line with NICE guidelines.
  6. To implement, co-ordinate and regularly review further assessment and a range of therapeutic interventions, including risk management.
  7. To routinely monitor effectiveness of clinical work by use of Routine Outcome Measures (ROM).
  8. Ensure that the perspective of children, young people and families is incorporated into all aspects of assessment and treatment.
  9. The role involves travel to other locations within MFT and within the local community.

  • You must be registered/accredited with a professional body: E.g., NMC, SW England, UKCP, HCPC, BACP
Qualifications
  • You must have a recognised qualification. Recognised qualifications are: Registered Nursing: RMN/RSCN, RNMH Social Work: CQSW/DipSW Occupational Therapy: Other relevant accreditable qualification
  • Qualifications in Psychological Therapies, e.g., CBT/SFT/IPT
  • Mentorship course ENB998 or equivalent
Experience
  • Proven experience of working effectively with people with mental health difficulties.
  • Experience of assessing and managing risk, including safeguarding.
  • Experience of developing and providing evidence based assessments, formulations and care plans.
  • Experience of liaison and working with a range of other relevant agencies and professionals.
  • Experience of autonomously managing a caseload within a service.
  • Experience of mentoring and supervision of others.
  • Experience of working to clinical governance principles.
  • Experience of following organisational policies and procedures.
  • Experience of working in Child and Adolescent Mental Health.
  • Experience of providing interventions for children and young people with mental health problems and their families.
  • Community mental health experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability
  • Up to date knowledge of child mental health and relevant legislation.
  • Understanding of evidence-based practice and the ability to demonstrate how this influences clinical practice.
  • The ability to assess, formulate and manage care appropriately, ensuring discharge is timely.
  • The ability to use assessment tools and outcome measures effectively and in collaboration with the child, young person and family.
  • Ability to manage and organise own time and diary and work flexibly and creatively in a clinical context.
  • The ability to maintain written and electronic clinical records.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the research process.
  • IT competent.
