Job description

Job Title: Fire Alarm Commissioning Engineer - Retail Sites

Location: Chester - Regional Travel Required

Base Salary: £36,083.00

Realistic OTE: £42,000.00 per annum with overtime

Full Time & Permanent position: 40 hours a week - Monday to Friday

Job Purpose

Our client, a national leader in the facilities management space, is seeking a Fire Commissioning Engineer to integrate into their successful Fire & Security Team. This is a key position, undertaking fire installation, commissioning, and maintenance works alongside the Security Systems team whilst operating in compliance with company policy and procedure. This position would be suitable for someone with a background in fire alarms and general fire experience; CCTV, Access Control, and Intruder experience would be beneficial.

Key Accountabilities:
  1. Multiple system type installation to commissioning and handover of fire including Addressable/Non-addressable systems, Air Sampling, Beam Detection, Wireless etc. in accordance with the current standards and Codes of Practice.
  2. Work within project time constraints, identifying and communicating without delay any potential risks to the project delivery dates.
  3. Ability to commission and handover systems in line with the specification and drawings, including giving client demonstrations.
  4. FIA qualifications (BS5839 Fundamentals/Advanced and Commissioning).
  5. A full understanding of BS5839 (All parts) - SSSTS to supervise 3rd parties on sites as required.
  6. Ensure all relevant H&S requirements are complied with.
  7. Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of yourself and the team in accordance with Company policy.
  8. Completion of the relevant e-documentation (via tablet) or paperwork in line with FIA & BAFE requirements.
  9. Actively support company policy and best practice around fire and security, with emphasis on the protection of sensitive customer information.
  10. Knowledge of integration of detection systems into other disciplines would be a real advantage.
  11. Provide technical support for all departments within the City.
  12. The ability to assist in the teaching and development of trainee Engineers.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  1. A proven background and experience of fire alarms minimum of 2-3 years.
  2. FIA qualifications (Advanced and Commissioning).
  3. A full understanding of BS5839 is essential.
  4. Knowledge of integration of detection systems into other disciplines would be a real advantage.
  5. Ability to program varying manufacturers cause and effects from a laptop is essential.
  6. Good communication skills are required as the majority of the role will involve being in a customer-facing environment.
  7. The ability to work alone and effectively organise your time.
  8. A good understanding of the Standards which relate to our Industry and the systems we install is required.
  9. A full understanding of Health and Safety is essential.
  10. A full clean driving licence and a willingness to travel to locations across the country.
  11. ECS/CSCS Card. IPAFF and Asbestos awareness essential.
  12. SSSTS to enable supervision of third-party contractors while on site is essential.
  13. Willingness to go the extra mile.
  14. A flexible attitude to working hours is necessary and we require a willingness to travel to locations across the country. Overnight stays will be required due to the onerous task while commissioning large systems.
  15. The willingness to travel at short notice is essential.
  16. On-call while system on soak test and during warranty period.
  17. Self-motivated and a team player, demonstrating professionalism, positivity, and proactivity.
